F53 engine

I had read another article on the new 7.3 L gas engine Ford is introducing but didn’t know if it would replace the V10 in the f53 Stripped chassis. Interesting!

Interesting article. "CAM in Block" design sounds like it has push-rods to open the overhead valves. I'll have do some research on that. Seems like a step backwards, but I'm sure they have their reasons. A V8 with pushrods implies a lower top RPM, so they made up for that with more gears. Since the 10 speed trans is the same physical size as the 6 speed, this implies each gear is smaller, potentially weaker, but that's just a cynical guess. More research required. I certainly wouldn't buy one in the first few years of production, but that's me.

I am pretty happy with the current V10/6-speed set up. I wish they would focus more attention on the suspension which is the weak link in the F53 based RVs.

X2... seems like this combo is the best to date.

Will be interesting to see how the 7.3/10-speed works out after a year or two of general production though.

The previous announcements did state that the 7.3 is a pushrod engine to lower the height of the heads and make the engine more compact.


The plant where the V10 was manufactured was converted over to make the new 8 so that pretty much indicates it was being replaced across all models.

I think it will be a great new option. I do hope there are suspension changes too. But this powertrain change could be a game changer. More torque at lower RPM. More gears. What’s not to like?

Pushrod V-8s do well up to 6000 or 7000 rpm. Generally well above the comfortable range for most RVers. We hated the noise from the V-10 in our Adventurer, when it downshifted and went screaming to 4500 rpm and higher. It did make power though.
Our newer diesel is almost soundproof.
