Install a new seat belt?

For Intent 28Y. There are total 5 seat belts. Can a new seat belt be installed in dinette seating area? thanks.

Hi Beautiful Day,
I considered adding an extra seatbelt to the dinette on my Minnie Winnie 22M, but it would be too crowded. Sadly, a pint cannot hold a quart.

Our 26m Intent offers two seat belts in the dinette area. Two, facing forward, and one rearward.

I can’t see why practically speaking, another couldn’t be added to the rearward facing seat, to make the dinette seat four strapped in.

That said, there must be a reason why that was not in the original design, and I’m willing to guess it has something to do with the National Traffic Safety board’s rules.

On a practical position, if one were to follow the EXACT same installation as the other three seat belts, something is better than none.

Our Vista 29V has 7 belts, 2 in the front, 2 on the couch and 3 at the dinette (2 forward facing, and one on the rear facing seat). Although IIRC, there are some stickers saying not to use the rear facing one on the dinette.

I do not believe that these RV's are crash tested, nor are the seat belts regulated by the TSB. So my "guess" is that they put the disclaimer on for liability reasons.

The seatbelt in the dinette is really to prevent the passenger from becoming a projectile. So it will require a very strong connection to the floor where it is anchored.

In my race car, I installed 6 point seatbelts, and there is a 3x3 inch plate under the car that the submarine belt is attached to. Quite a large area for pull out, and that only would take 20% of the load of the belt.
