I bought replacement blades from NAPA. They have a 'U' shaped end that you just push into the receptacle, but I can't figure out how to get the old blades off the receptacle.

Hi Gene,
You might try some searches on Youtube and find guidance which matches your blade's construction. I have an example below.
Q: How many psychologists does it take to change a wiper blade?
A: Just one; but first the wiper blade has to want to change.

The directions on the wiper package do not mention how to remove the old blades. I looked at the receptacle, but did not see any obvious clips or screws. I tried just pulling the blade out, but it did not budge.

Hi again Gene,
I have seen many refills which did not come with instructions. It could be that your blade holders are crimped into place. You may just have to bit the bullet and purchase the entire replacement wiper.

Hi Eagle5:
I did buy the entire replacement wiper, not just the rubber blade. But the replacement wiper fits into a receptacle that is at the end of the metal arms that swing the blades.
Thanks.
Gene

Try tipping the wiper blade assembly out of alignment with the arm (shouldn't take any force), and see if there is a catch. Holding this catch depressed, slide the wiper blade assembly off by moving it along the wiper arm; toward the wiper motor shaft.
Did you have any luck with further searches on Youtube?
