I haven't had a chance to work on it lately. After the heat wave had 2 busy weekends. Oh yeah, house is for sale, too. The RV shop I took it to for skylight replacement and complete scrapping and resealing of the roof, end caps, and sides charged $1600. Don't know if that's a fair price or not.

I replaced our skylight so I know how time consuming that is. Removing all the old adhesive is a tough job! I think $1600 to do that along with all the other stuff is a fair price. I would have guessed around $2000.

Thanks. I got up on the roof. It looks like they did a thorough job.

I disassembled the end pieces today. It helps to unlock and pull the seat extension out a little before tipping the seat onto it's front side. Lifting up the panel secured with Velcro exposed 3 of the nuts that secure the top to the base. The fourth nut is visible after extending the seat base. The top part lifts off the base and fits easily out the door. The base is heavy so I'm waiting for help to get them out. There are 3 wire looms that run through the base frame on the section closest to the door. They came apart and reassembled easily. We are going to use modular stick down carpet tiles on the slide platform.

I got the end base pieces of the sofa sleeper out today. The extend-a-seat is held to the base by 2 allen bolts that secure the steel rollers in place. Once the bolts are out the pieces separate and fit through the door easily.

The indentation in the slide base is 4 inches deep. We test fit the Recpro recliner on the slide with the top of the recliner barely touching the window valance. The front of the recliner frame overlaps the slide indentation by an inch. As the seat begins to recline it actually pulls away from the valance. Continuing to max recline the top of the recliner moves back toward the valance and barely skims it before dropping below the valance. A perfect fit. I could remove the valance and trim a quarter inch off the top, but I'm happy with it the way it is. My plan is to fill the slide indentation with wood to support the front of the recliner. The recliner has sufficient support without filling the indentation, but filling the void will make installing carpet easier and give it a nicer look.

The pictures and commentary are very helpful Howie! Glad for your input on the valance legs - as the height of the recliner with those has been a concern of mine. We were also very curious about the cut out section in the middle as well and if something would need to be made or modified to accomodate that. Husband was considering roller's under that section attached to the furniture, much like the ones that are on the OEM sofa. Keep the pics and info coming!!

I filled the void in the slide today. I cross cut a 2x4 to 57 1/2 inches, then ripped it to 3 1/8 inches. I had a piece of 1x2 that was about 54 inches long laying around that I used as a spacer between the 2x4 and slide. Next I clamped the 2x4 and 1x2 together and pre-drilled thru both about every 6 inches with a bit slightly larger than my screws. Then I drilled 1 1/2 into the outside edge of the 2x4 with a bit large enough to allow the screw head to pass. I used #12 sheet metal screws 3 inches long. I used the 2x4 as a template to drill pilot holes into the aluminum slide. I pre-screwed the screws into the aluminum before final assembly to avoid any problems. It turned out great. It's very solid. Next will be the carpet installation. I'm having a carpet guy do that for me. My wife doesn't trust me.🙄

Looking good Howie!! Have you decided what you are going to do with the old sofa that was in there? Can't wait to see the next pics of the carpet and then the final install!!

Not sure what to do with the old sofa sleeper. Any ideas?
Got the carpet installed yesterday. We had enough carpet remnant to do both sides of the living room. It looks so good we're going to get another remnant and have the drivers compartment and bedroom done in the same carpet. I set the recliners in place today. With the recliner back touching the window side valance the recliners extend fully with no problems. Like I said before, the back moves away from the valance initially, then drops below it when fully extended. As you can see in the pictures, the window is barely obstructed. The seat belts come close to lining up. I think they would work for two people, if needed. I plan to screw the frames down to the slide and wood insert in the front, and into the wood slide decking in the rear.

All done! I bolted the recliners together with 1/4 inch x 1 inch machine screws and nuts in the front and rear. The rear frame can be reached by removing the seat backs, the front by extending the foot rest. I anchored the seats with screws through the front frame into the 2x4 filler board installed earlier. The seats are very secure. Seat belts can be accessed by reaching between the seat back and seat. We finally have comfortable seating!

More room

A bonus with the switch out is the extra room we now have in the living room, especially with the slides in.

Howie - That looks so awesome and very homey!!! Really like the cabinet you have in there under the window as well. We have a desk there ourselves, but are looking into switching it out this winter. While I wanted to do the sofa earlier in the season, hubby wanted to wait and make it his winter project. Thanks again for sharing the pics!! It looks so nice!!

The cabinet is a sewing cabinet with machine lift. I cut an insert to fit my wife's Bernina. I was going to use it as a desk as well, but I find working from the recliner more comfortable. We are having the carpeting in the front and bedroom replaced with the same as was done on the slides. The darker carpet looks great.

Look what we did today!! Oh my gosh Howie - your pics were so helpful in taking apart the individual pieces to not only help lighten the load when carrying them out but in also to make it possible to get them out of the motorhome. So the question we do have at this point is ... did you remove that padded piece that is attached to the wall? From your pics it looks like you may have left it but does it serve a purpose once the OEM sofa is removed?

I'm happy for you to get started. You will be so happy with the result. I'm glad my pics helped. I believe that pad on the wall was a support for the sofa bed. I left it there. It doesn't interfere with the Recpro installation and my wife wanted it left there in case we sold the MH and put the old unit back in (it ain't gonna happen, we sold the old sofa, recliner, and table to someone who wanted to put it in his older MH). Keep me updated and feel free to ask questions. We're at Gulf Shores State Park until 1/3, then on to Destin, Orlando, the Keys, and Naples.

Considering also doing this couch replacement on our 2016 35G.

Live in Cleveland and the coach is stored in Myrtle Beach till end of January when we drive down, pick it up and take off to Florida for a few months. So can't go out and measure.

Was wondering if anyone has the width dimension of the passenger slide so I can decide how long of a couch to go with from RecPro. Might also need to know the width from one side to the other between the side window valences to make room for the backs. Or at least how much the valences stick out from the side walls.

If we do this, I think the only thing we will miss is the ability to set up the portable drop down table between the pullouts on the existing couch. We like to use it when we have friends over to play cards or other games. We just use some fold up TV table to eat at.
Thanks!
Carl
