Extarder

This is installed on my 2005 Itasca 38J, but it is not connected (see pics)

Can someone explain it’s purpose and if it really needed?

Thanks,
Mike

A simple Google search reveals that it is a compression brake for Cummins Diesel engines.

That’s the same thing I found, but my MH is not a diesel pusher.

Further searching reveals some have put these on Gas truck engine, but what I see is it’s not very practical. Perhaps why yours is disconnected.

PS, when asking questions it helps everyone if you include the RV’s model, year floor plan and in this case chassis info, too.
