Electric reclining couch will not retract

Hello All,

I have a 2012 Itasca Suncruiser 37F with a split electric reclining couch in the living room. One side recently stopped retracting. It will still recline but wont retract. Im sure there is a safety switch in there somewhere. I just cant seem to locate anything. Anyone have the same issue?

Thanks,

Dave

Not sure if its the exact same issue, but our electric recliner couch section started acting intermittently- likely as a result of a very young grandson who thought that switch was the best button to push ever made. I was able to find an almost exact replacement and install that switch myself for about $15. No problems ever since.

Since you are so near to gettting it working, my guess would also say the switch due to the way many 12 dc things are made to reverse by simply reversing the wiring at the switch.

This crude little drawing is what I might expect to find at the switch.
DC motors are nice for reversing as it just needs to reverse the power.

They often use a "double pole, double throw" switch which means there are two poles (connections?) which have double moves available.
When you push the center common the switch connects one of those sets and reverses the connection when pressed the other way!

Likely one of those connections inside the switch is no longer making the connection. Cheap switch replacement and you are likely good to go!

Thanks Joe. Worth a try. Do you happen to remember where you purchased the switch?

It was about 2 years ago and we were traveling in the Austin TX area when the switch gave up. My wife had enough of the intermittent action with it and wanted it fixed. (So did I) I pulled the switch out myself and took it with me to an RV dealer in Buda TX just south of Austin. I think it was Crestview on the west side of I-35 in Buda? They had them in stock.

One interesting thing that I ran into was that I could not find a fuse or a breaker anywhere to kill the circuit- I had to change it out hot. Kept me on my toes. Not saying there isn't one somewhere but I never could find it????

One other note- its been a couple of years now since I changed it out and I notice the same switch is starting to act up. Before I buy a new one I am going to check to make sure its not just a loose connection. They do seem like a cheaply made switch though.

As a small point, it pays to be aware that there are differences in the two RV but on the breaker for the sofa, it is the same. If it were other circuits, things are different.

Click these snips to view better.

I did a search for the sofa circuit and found this, showing it as the EEC circuit:

With that info we can look at the breakers and find it here on the 2012 Suncruiser:

And the same location for this circuit on the 2016 Adventurer but if we look at the other breakers, there are several other circuits which are different and that could leave a hazard if we assume they are the same RV!

Point to keep in mind is that we should never trust a salesman's word that they are the same RV!!
When shopping, if these have a label on the side, like possibly a Carling, it can be easier to find them at a local electronics store if they cross referance the model. RV parts are often so much harder to find than the switch for all the other things that use the same switch! Lots more places that sell switches than sell RV parts!

I've never dug into the couch switch but many of the other switches on our RV are Carling which is a very common name for switches.

Thanks everyone. I removed the switch, just unplugged it and cleaned the prongs and plugged it back in. working fine right now. May have just been a bad connection. Thanks to all,

Dave
