Class A awning problem?

2019 Class A Sightseer 33C.
Now and then, high winds will rock the boat, so to speak. And when the big awning is out, if flails around like it isn't anchored properly. So I have to pull the awning in every time there's any kind of big wind for fear that it just might get yanked off completely.

Question: looking at the attached image, do you think it is correctly positioned when it stops going out? And should that wire be hanging out like that?

Yes, it's positioned correctly. You can get on a small step stool and loosen the round clamp handles to make it have a steeper slope and this will make it more stable in wind. The down side to doing that is that you have to get out again and loosen the handles and have the awning go back to the original angle before closing it.

It's just not designed to handle much wind. Good Idea to always close it when you are not at your RV.

The more expensive Winnebagos have awnings with wind sensors that auto close the awning when wind exceeds the threhold that could damage the awning, but Sightseer and Vista did not.

The key thing here is to put the awning in whenever the wind starts moving the awning (or you leave the coach). Trust me it takes but a Micro-second for a gust to destroy your awning. No fun.

I have the same awning as you and it does a good job of handling wind, but don’t trust it just roll it in.

And, yes your awning looks perfectly fine in that photo. The wire needs to be put back in the arm. Use a small amount of caulk or adhesive to hold it to the arm.

We have the opposite problem with our 2010 Winnebago Tour CD, in that as soon as a gentle breeze blows the awning self retracts automatically. Unless I turn the awning switch to off it always puts itself in.

On my Dometic Weatherpro I have an adjustment to set the amount of wind. Perhaps yours is set too low. https://www.dometic.com/assets/63/80/operating%20manual_56380.pdf?att=true

We have the same awning as well and recently added a sun screen that hangs down and attaches to the ground with bungees. This makes it much more stable with some wind and provides some shade. However, I agree with creativepart, just roll it in when the wind starts to blow.
