All I know is they get REALLY hot! Once my sister’s car needed a tune up and it was misfiring. I looked underneath and her converter was glowing red. They start a lot of fires when people pull off of the road into tall dry grasses. Makes one think twice about where you choose to boondocks…

Did you follow the VHT curing instructions?

Not sure what is VHT?, but I did follow the curing process. Took three full cycles before driving and then about a week after curing before I actually drove.

Rustoleum says to to let run 10 mins let cool, run 20 minutes let cool, & run 30 minutes and let cool. I took pictures after curing and it all look good.

My short trip was 20 minutes to a Steakhouse. We shut down engine dined inside the RV and watched a movie, and 2 hours later we made the 20 minute trip back home. Arguably; you could say I actually added 2 additional rounds of curing.

Note: Other Spray paints that are 2000F may fare better? I have an extra can of the Rustoleum but I will wait to see what it does after my a very long trip. If nothing else, I have photos for my insurance where I applied the paint on 8/11.

But right now VHT is killing me

Sorry I was assuming you had used VHT brand. I was getting ready to order some when I saw your latest post. The VHT brand curing process seems to be similar to rustoleum. VHT has several good and several bad reviews on Amazon. Not sure what I'll do

By the way the temps I see in the cats on my Sprinter during regen is in the 1,000F to 1,300 range. My TDI can get a bit hotter but nowhere near 2,000F. During normal driving in the Sprinter they stay below 800, usually 5-600

to be clear these are measured from EGT sensors placed in the exhaust stream between the components.

I would say buy and document what happens, it may be better than Rustoleum?
I spent $20 for two cans. I only used one can; so I have more if needed. It is still bright Orange in other areas; so I will not really know until I make a long trip. That DPD and VIN on back side do not seem impacted? I think it is odd the way the heat must radiate on the converter itself. It is still Red/Orange enough for thief to see and be deterred. However, I must admit, the reason I bought was because negative reviews were saying the Red turned Orange.

It has been 2 weeks an another short trip, the transformation to Orange is almost complete. The Reviewers of Rustoleum were correct when they said the Red will turn to Orange. I wonder what color Orange would have turned had I bought it?

It is easier to see at night, so hopefully this will make the thief happy to better see it is painted before crawling underneath.

Yeah, I don’t think the heat threshold for the paint meant it wouldn’t discolor, I would assume it meant it just would flake off? But I still think you’ve achieved your goal…

Well as many thieves as there are stealing them, every now them you gonna find a bad thief with low morals. Most thieves should be honorable low lifes that would not steal another man's orange cat.

bass turds. Punishment should be beat around the head and shoulders with a catalytic converter till permanently maimed and fingers removed to prevent future holding of a sawzall.

4 more scum behind bars....

We need more stories about this stuff (successful arrests and prosecutions) to educate the mass pubic than all of the other nonsense that headline our news.
