AC/Heat Thermostat

I have a '18 Intent 30R. Can I put a residential digital thermostat in the coach? We currently have one that looks like a 70/80's style with the slide style for temp.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Yes, you can. I recently replaced our Coleman Mach with a Honeywell from Ace Hardware. I wanted a programmable one.

I believe it was this one:

Wow, I'm surprised at this answer. I've seen this discussed dozens of times and always heard that this was not possible. Interesting.

Well, I did a little more reading and see that if you buy a Thermostat that can run off of battery power it is possible to do this.

In my research I found folks that have done this and have it working flawlessly, but others have all manor of AC control issues.

But it's good to know it's possible.

I found a YouTube video that looks to show you how:

I have changed out/upgraded thermostats on three previously owned fifth wheels. It is simple to do. The challenging part is the two-speed/hi-low switch. Radio Shack used to carry them but you may need to get it online if the new thermostat doesn't have one built in.

Replacement theromostat

As mentioned previously a typical modern home theromostat should work most of the time. BUT if you have coach with "heat pump" have units you will need to address the failover of the hvac heating to gas heating when the outside temps drop below 32°. Lee
