You can look up recalls and other information on the NHTSA site itself. For example, I keep a bookmark to all of our vehicles so I can check occasionally. One of the great things about the NHTSA site is they allow the public to read
COMPLAINTS and
MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS for a given model as well.
You can start here:
https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/ and drill down by year, manufacturer, trim, etc. or enter the VIN or just start typing, beginning with your model year.
I simply started typing this in the box at the top of:
https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/
2020 Forest River Georgetown
and then clicked on the vehicle in the list that shows up and pressed
Enter. Below is the link I keep bookmarked for our Georgetown recalls. I clicked on
RECALLS and set a bookmark.
https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2020/F...GETOWN#recalls
If you scroll up a bit from that bookmark link you'll see:
COMPLAINTS
RECALLS
INVESTIGATIONS
MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS
COMPLAINTS are what the general public has filed. Honestly, some complaints, especially on cars and trucks, can be quite entertaining.
MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS are the TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) that the vehicle manufacturers are supposed to send to the NHTSA but, of course, Forest River does not. Newmar does and other RV manufacturers do. All auto manufacturers do but occasionally not all bulletins are there.
When I have a problem with a car I'll go through
MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS to see if the manufacturer issued a TSB for the problem or symptom and then print it out and ask the dealer to check on it. A lot of dealers simply do not seem to do that step.
When you are on the recalls section, click the
+ in a circle to see more information.
The
Associated Documents section is where the actual docs are.
The 573 report is the actual notice from the manufacturer to the NHTSA and those usually have interesting details. There often are Amendments so you can just look at the highest 573 amendment. As more defective units are found than originally reported or new details are found they are reported in a 573 Amendment.
The Recall Quarterly Reports show the progress of the recall process.
The rest usually have a self-explanatory title.
Just click on any title to see the PDF.
It also may help to search for the chassis rather than the RV. For example,
2021 FORD F-53 for the gasser chassis.Yes, the hyphen is needed but occasionally it's missing so I usually search with and without the hyphen.
Hope this helps,
Ray
