2021 F53 Emergency brake drag

Does anyone have any experience with this issue? My coach is in the shop now, and they have diagnosed that the Ebrake overheated causing the entire system to prematurely wear out. We have 2,811 miles on the MH. Apparently there have been a number of these failures In low mileage 2020 and 2021 models. It seems the brake was installed incorrectly and an excessive amount of drag from the factory causes the issue. Ford has issued a few notices but no recall at this time.

If anyone here has any information on this issue, I would greatly appreciate some assistance. Thank you.

Sorry to say I can’t help with your problem, but you might try looking or asking at the www.irv2.com F53 Chassis forum.

Here’s a link: https://www.irv2.com/forums/f23/

Yes, sorry to hear about that! There have been a few recalls in the last year on the F53. One with the rear axle, a wiper module, and most recently one having to do with the steering system. I hope they are getting all quality and supply issues under control at Ford. Wishing you the best in your repairs. Please let us know how it works out.

Thanks, Creative. I just posted a similar thread on the irv2 site. Maybe someone there can help.
Thanks again!

You can look up recalls and other information on the NHTSA site itself. For example, I keep a bookmark to all of our vehicles so I can check occasionally. One of the great things about the NHTSA site is they allow the public to read COMPLAINTS and MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS for a given model as well.

You can start here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/ and drill down by year, manufacturer, trim, etc. or enter the VIN or just start typing, beginning with your model year.

I simply started typing this in the box at the top of: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/

2020 Forest River Georgetown

and then clicked on the vehicle in the list that shows up and pressed Enter. Below is the link I keep bookmarked for our Georgetown recalls. I clicked on RECALLS and set a bookmark.

https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2020/F...GETOWN#recalls

If you scroll up a bit from that bookmark link you'll see:

COMPLAINTS
RECALLS
INVESTIGATIONS
MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS

COMPLAINTS are what the general public has filed. Honestly, some complaints, especially on cars and trucks, can be quite entertaining.

MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS are the TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) that the vehicle manufacturers are supposed to send to the NHTSA but, of course, Forest River does not. Newmar does and other RV manufacturers do. All auto manufacturers do but occasionally not all bulletins are there.

When I have a problem with a car I'll go through MANUFACTURER COMMUNICATIONS to see if the manufacturer issued a TSB for the problem or symptom and then print it out and ask the dealer to check on it. A lot of dealers simply do not seem to do that step.

When you are on the recalls section, click the + in a circle to see more information.

The Associated Documents section is where the actual docs are.

The 573 report is the actual notice from the manufacturer to the NHTSA and those usually have interesting details. There often are Amendments so you can just look at the highest 573 amendment. As more defective units are found than originally reported or new details are found they are reported in a 573 Amendment.

The Recall Quarterly Reports show the progress of the recall process.

The rest usually have a self-explanatory title.

Just click on any title to see the PDF.

It also may help to search for the chassis rather than the RV. For example, 2021 FORD F-53 for the gasser chassis.Yes, the hyphen is needed but occasionally it's missing so I usually search with and without the hyphen.

Hope this helps,

Ray

202235f, here is the Special Service Message from Ford to dealers.

SSM 51050 2021-2022 F-650/750, 2020-2022 Motorhome/Commercial Stripped Chassis - Low Miles Parking Brake Drag - Built On Or Before 10-Jun-2022
Some 2021-2022 F-650/750, 2020-2022 Motorhome/Commercial Stripped Chassis vehicles built on or before 10-Jun-2022 with very low miles may experience parking brake drag. This condition typically occurs in less than 3000 miles (4800 kilometers). This condition may be identified even with the hand or pedal actuator mechanism disengaged. Inspect the park brake system for damage and replace parts as required per Workshop Manual (WSM) Section 206-05. If no damage if found, adjust the park brake cables and the park brake shoe adjuster per WSM, Section 206-05. For claiming, use the applicable labor operations of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

I'm pleased to report that Ford reimbursed me in full for the $2,400 or so that I paid to repair the Ebrake issue. Between the service bulletin and the warranty, everything was covered.
