Question 2014 Ellipse - Loud Snap noise at Main Door

We're about to upgrade and purchase a 2014 Ellipse. There is an intermittent
Loud snapping/crack noise coming from the main door. The dealer appears stumped and/or says it's normal. Anyone else experience this? It's loud enough to be a show stopper. Thank you!

Does the door have an air lock? I would bet no. However, some coaches do. I would be very cautious and insist the issue be resolved before signing on the dotted line. Best of luck.

Does it pop when you take off from a stop?

Yes and that's when the dealer says it's normal. But then it popped as we were test driving at different times, not related to stopping. They say it's the coach "sealing" the door in place....but there's no rhyme or reason when the noise cracks. Thank you for your response!

It should not be loud. Just a simple click sound when you start rolling. An air activated solenoid on the upper front of the door jam pushes a roller up into a polymer wedge mounted on the door to put steady pressure assisting a seal at the top of the door while in motion only. It is out of adjustment.

I am happy to help were I can.
If the polymer wedge is not shimmed out correctly the roller will slip by it and sometime sounds like a shotgun going off.

Jesse, Thank you! You described it exactly and I forwarded your answer to the dealer. If they can fix that "Shotgun" we'll soon be the proud parents of an Ellipse! :-) Thanks again.

Snapping sound when starting forward movement

Experiencing snapping sound when first starting forward movement. Drives me nuts especially in stop and go traffic. Jesse mentioned an adjustment, is this something owner can accomplish or is it a dealer job?

RR,
The dealer repaired for us before pickup but I understand it was a very simple fix. They adjusted the wedge position so the roller would catch every time. I'd guess it's something we owners could adjust.

Hi Rick
You can adjust it yourself. The plate that houses the roller has 4 screws that can be loosened and moved. It is difficult to see what's happening with the door almost closed I used silly putty and placed it over the wheel and slowly closed the door. When I opened it I could see exactly what was out of line. The wedge is plastic and can break if the roller is adjusted the wrong way and the door is closed.
