2007 Winnebago Journey front door

Has anyone had problems with the front door opening too far when a gust of wind hits the door???
Our door has a small mechanism built into the door to prevent the door from
opening too far. However, it has broken. Has anyone had this problem?? and what was the remedy??
Thanks

A strong wind gust tore the entry door away from my grip just as I opened it. This damaged the aluminum frame of the door.

Our insurance adjuster prescribed a new entry door. It took about a month for Winnebago to fabricate and ship a new entry door, which included the door frame.

The new door was installed by the collision specialists at a major RV dealership. The new paint job matched perfectly. I don't know what it cost the insurance company, but the estimate was over $5,000, and the collision shop supervisor told me he had to negotiate with insurance company because their cost exceeded the estimate. I gather this was a very challenging job for the collision technicians.

The new door can be pretty squeaky while traveling down certain roads, but quiet on other types of roads. I've been told by Winnebago factory service technician that the door can be adjusted to remedy squeaks. That service is on our list for our next shop stop.

On earlier front door models there is fix from Winnebago. I think if you contact Mobility RV they can give you the info. I think it's the same for the 07. Do a search on this forum there is also info on the fix.

I have replaced the door limit strap mechanism on mine, and repaired it by removing and bending it back into shape another time.

I spent a fair amount of time searching for previous irv2 forum posts on subject. Here is my personal conclusion after reading these threads.

We plan to be at Winnebago in Forest City next spring. We will ask them to retrofit our 2005 Vectra entry door with later model OEM "door keeper." It appears to cost approximately $100 in parts and $100 in labor.

The following are snippets from different irv2 forum posts. Hopefully, they help you find threads a little easier.

"Last spring we had Winnebago install the new roll-up screen for the front door and absolutely love it; this time we had them install the heaver door keeper which looks similar to the pre-2006 version but is much more stout."

"Winnie has apparently made some door changes. They have an improved door 'keeper' that I'm interested in for retro fit."

"There appears to be a lack of support for the open entry door against a strong wind from the wrong direction"

"totally jealous of the new front door with an arm-style keeper at the top of the door"

"latch failed and the door swung around pushing the right mirror until the door stopped against the right side marker light"

"I meet a couple that had a family member fabricate a very nice doorstop for their Ultimate Advantage or Freedom."

"You should have no metal to metal contact." "The door keeper may also need ajustment to make the door close and latch properly."

Same issue with our '04 Vectra. You have to be very careful when it is windy (like right now) when opening the door. So far we have been lucky, knock wood, and one of us holds onto the door.

The biggest problem we have is not being able to leave the door open in any kind of wind. That sucks on a nice day when you can have all the windows open but need to close the door when it comes with a screen door. Our class C had a simple rod, bent at both ends that slipped into brackets on the door and outside wall. The class A doesn't have enough room forward of the door for such a thing as far as I can see.

3 T's door stop looks like a solution to the door opening too far Door stops but not a solution for it waving around in the wind when open. We end up hooking a bungee cord to the door handle and the grab bar some days. It prevents the door from waving around but males for a PIA to get in and out.

Has anyone come up with a better idea? Link maybe?

That is almost exactly what our Minnie had to hold the door open. I think all of that stuff can be bought at Home Depot and/or West Marine. Thanks.

Miss John around here.

I made my own door stop out of an aluminum angle iron and 2 each 5/16" stainless steel bolts and 4 each SS nuts. Made it in 2 pieces for easier storage. See pics.

Another nice idea and good job. I may have to wait to get back to the sticks and bricks house to build something myself. Until then it will be the bungee cords or keep the door shut on windy days.

Unfortunately their picture of the "stop" is too low resolution to see it very well, and I found no other info there. If it is just a stop, it is not what most of us want/need.
