2006 Sightseer / Ford chassis / Horn power source

I'm hoping for a little help for my father-in-laws' 2006 Winnebago Sightseer on a Ford chassis. He replaced the OEM horns due to them not working and has discovered that there is no 12v power to the 10 amp horn fuse, which is under the hood.

Could someone share the information as to where the power source to this specific fuse, and any other electrical items that should be checked for power?

Thank you. -RT

Attached are two diagrams I made for our coach, which is also built on the Ford F53 chassis. Ford provides a horn fuse F17 and a horn relay R3, both in the Battery Junction Box (BJB) under the hood.

Winnebago provides some wiring diagrams for your coach on its Web site. I usually spend some time looking at them before replying, as each coach manufacturer can do things differently once it leaves the Ford "world," but in this case I haven't.

If your father-in-law has a chassis manual, he can confirm the fuse and relay information I've provided.

Oh, and an add-on question since I can no longer edit my original post in this thread: For Ford chassis owners, is there any movement or flex in the center of the steering wheel when you press on the horn? Father-in-law is reporting that it's rock-hard, no give, no flex... may have been that way the entire time he's owned it, (and the horns did work) but he can't remember or never noticed. His chassis model year is 2006 but Ford likely used the same steering wheel and horn button mechanism for many model years.

Thank you -RT

Our old coach is sold, and the new one in storage... but if memory serves, the horn "button" (that is the entire center of the wheel) is "rock-hard"- kinda like a padded dash.

OK, this is where year-to-year differences matter. The fuse is not in the #17 position.

Attached are two pages from Ford's documentation for the 2006 chassis. The horn fuse is #18 in the "PDB" (Power Distribution Box), which is the same thing as the "BJB" (Battery Junction Box) in other Ford documents. The horn relay should be in the same box, in the same position as the 2007 chassis (position #3).

Also attached is a picture of the innards of the box.

Note that the horn fuse is a "Maxi" fuse (that is, bigger than most).

I hope these help.

Here's a version of the PDF file with pages rotated for easier viewing.

I'd look in #17 and #18. My '04 is in the #18 spot. Looking at some owners manuals the '06 says it is in the #18 spot, but the '07 says #17. The engine and harness changed in '06. The manuals could be right, but it seems odd to have the '06 be like the '04 and not '07.

Let us know what you find. You says there is a 10 amp fuse in the horn spot. That doesn't match anything. Either way, #17 or #18 ought to be powered up at all times.

Thank-you Mark for all your posts in both threads. I relayed all the information by phone to my father-in-law, so we'll see how it goes. He doesn't think he's gone into the large box yet as he doesn't think he's seen a box with that many fuses and relays. -RT

Here's a helpful tip from another thread, on how to open the box under the hood:

"The lid swings from right to left, after you push a retaining clip on the lower right of box."

Of course, if Winnebago mounted it upside down (that is, similar to the picture in post #6), the lid will swing the other way.

I thought I saw a picture somewhere that showed the PDB/BJB mounted on the firewall. But, I can't find it now, if it exists. I have a drawing, but it doesn't help much.
