I am having trouble with my left rear leveler.
It seems to take forever for it to retract so I took it to the dealer and he said the manafacturer told him it was normal for it to take up to 15 min. to retract. Do you think that is normal? I didn't time before I took it in because I thought something was wrong.

Bobwt, hi and welcome. When I first got the MH I felt it took too much time to retract the rear levelers. I called HWH directly and they told me on a cold day the rear ones could take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes depending on the temperature due to them being hydraulic. The Tec told me if I wanted to spray them to use silicon not wd40, but that it wasn't necessary. When retracted they sit in oil.

Give HWH a direct call, they are very helpful. I prefer to talk with Mfg. directly rather than with the dealer.

Good luck
Tom

For my '05 Journey HWH replaced the springs with stronger ones free of charge.

This may not be of much help since ours is an 06 with only 3600 miles but, even when it is cold, the longest it has taken has been approx. 3 minutes to fully retract the rears. When it is warmer they retract in just over a 2 minutes at most. Hope this helps.

Hi Bobw7 - I've found that extending the jacks two at a time all the way and then cleaning the pistons and finishing with a light coat of silicone spray really helps. My right rear was tardy...not by minutes but by hours, and that chime can get pretty anoying. Also, pushing the "stow" button once may not be enough. For the one that is really slow, push and hold the jack up arrow for the end (usually rear) for awhile.
Best regards,
Larry

Our front left leveler will take its time retracting on a cold day - it can easily take 10+ minutes. Just retracted the levelers yesterday on a 75 degree day and they all came up in less than three minutes.

Prior to my Vectra I had an '05 Journey. On very cold days the jacks could take up to 10-12 minutes to retract before the darn beeper shut off.

The dealer put a new spring on the one that took longer than the rest and it did seem to help.

bobw7, had similiar problem with my left rear jack on my 04 Suncruiser in that it would take a long time to retract. Worse than that however it would drop enough to set off the alarm while driving and sometimes the stow button would cease the alarm and sometimes not. I finally replaced the spring myself and it rarely sets off the alarm..mostly in hot weather but always had ceased after pressing the stow button. Still takes longer than any of the other jacks to retract but at least it works!!

I have a 2005 Meridian, and I also had slow HWH levelers(minutes). I just cleaned the shafts, and sprayed with silicon spray which was mentioned above, and my levelers retracted in less than 30 seconds.

Bobw7: When you get the new springs all you need is a bottle jack a block of wood the sit the jack on so you can reach the jack pad. Mine came off quick,R&R 15 mins. Much less time than waiting at a dealer. Give it a try and good luck

Interesting how some levelers are slow in retracting and others have no problem. I wonder if they use different parts from different Mfg. for production. Something has to be different.
