Just found some large spots where the paint is peeling above the windshield. Is this a common problem with full body painted coaches?
I couldn't find mention of it in my seaarches.
It was a very late 2003 construction Journey 39K so probably one of the first paint jobs of this kind.
I bought it new in April 2004.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

We have a 2003 Journey 39W with full body paint and so far the paint still looks new with no peeling. The MH is stored in a carport next to the house, mostly sheilded from the elements. Purchased in Aug. '03.

Mine is flaking off in the same spot. We're tied up for the summer in Mt. so can do nothing till fall. Ours was built in Jan 04, so guess they didn't do such a great job. I'm considering getting the section over the windshield done while we are home in AZ. this winter. Guess I'll be looking for a GOOD paint shop near Phoenix.

My paint is not flaking, but the clear coat is flaking high above the windshield and also along the sides just above the rain gutter.

Yes Paul, mine started with the clear coat then after that started flaking off, the paint underneath started. I just went up and looked and sure enough it's starting on the edges over the gutters. I am not thinking of even going to Winnebago on this. The hassle and expense of going to Iowa and staying in the motel there while they redo their paint job is not worth it. I am now very displeased!

We have a 2004 39W built in October of 2003 and purchased in April of 2004. The clear coat and paint look good everywhere--no peeling. The coach is stored under cover--no sides on building, but little Arizona sun on coach. I do see some blemishes in a few spots but you have to look hard to see them.
We're happy so far--38K miles.

I suspected I wasn't the only one with problems, I'll call Winnebago tomorrow and let you know what they suggest. By chance we'll be in Iowa late Sept., so that may be a good time to visit them.
Thanks for the comments so far.

It appears that I am having the same problem. I just noticed it last month when I went up to clear off the roof before I went on a trip. It will be interesting to see the answer to this one.

I had paint flaking along the bottom edge of the galley/lounge slide during the first year. Winnebago covered the re-painting which was sub-let from a dealer in Virginia. I also had a couple of my cargo doors repainted to repair some deep scratches. That was done by a local auto paint shop in Yorktown, Virginia that another dealer refered me to. Both areas look great now ...just to point out that you do not have to return the coach to Iowa to get a quality paint repair, even under Warranty.

I've never talked to them about the clearcoat flaking up by the front clearance lamps and along the sides above the rain gutter.

Ours is about the same build. I have a little paint coming off on the bedroom slide. Nothing on front. I also keep ours inside.

Front top just recently started. After going up on the roof for a closer inspection I noticed some areas along both sides on the roof just above the gutters. Clearcoat starting to crack and flake.

I had the same clear coat peel issue on my '04. The paint shop did not spray enough clear coat in the roof area. Make one phone call to CDI Paint, Dave Nagel 641-585-9500. He is pro active and will take care of the problem.

I've been watching this subject Gary, what did CDI do for you. Just about convinced myself the fix would be take it home to Arizona and pay to get the flaking area repainted on my own nickle. After taking the coach to Iowa, staying in a motel and the trip back, the cost would be the same.

Thanks for all the help, I've scheduled an appointment at CDI for mid-September. From other research, it appears that CDI used to spray clear coat in an open area before a new facility was built in 2004; maybe the coverage wasn't as tightly controlled as it is in later coaches.

We may see you there, will be at CDI on the 10th Sept! They say it will only take 4-5 hours. Hmmm!

Good info on this forum.

who is CDI? And where are they located? I'm having the same problem and will need to contact Winnebago or someone else. I'd rather have it taken care of locally than drive all the way to Iowa.

Contract paint operation, I believe they are located right across the street to the south from Winnebago.

I had a little paint work done on my coach at a couple places in VA that Winnebago dealers used. Both places did a great job. I don't see any need to take my coach to Iowa to have the "problem" fixed unless CDI or Winnebago are paying, or unless I an going to be in Iowa anyway, like for GNR.

CDI is the contractor that does all of Winnies full body painting. They are located across the street from the plant. I did as I planned, went to CDI got, had the top of the rig painted (took 5 hours total)left a happy camper! The man said<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Make one phone call to CDI Paint, Dave Nagel 641-585-9500. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>He was right. I received a check for the fuel used from Montana to Iowa.

I called winnebago first to make sure they had a record of my problem, then called Dave Nagle. He is working with my repair facility here to have the work done, but i am now planning on coming to GNR this year so i may wait and have CDI do it instead.
