2003 Journey Entrance Door?

This door makes me sometimes wish we had a gasser, where the door can be secured when open. The wind catches it and pushes it past the 90 degree point, and then slams it shut if the wind changes. I took the door apart revealing the door detent hardware, which doesn't seem strong enough to stop the flopping in the wind.

Anyone else having this problem, and is there a solution? Thanks in advance for any help. ......Doug

Mine is the same. I looked into installing a Monaco-type of hinged bracket at the top of the door, but I don't have enough clearance between the top of the door, and the header. So I am thinking of adding a flexible strap or cord, screw-anchored to the center of the header, and near the center of the top of the door.

It would hang down about 8 or 10 inches when the door is closed, but that won't bother me. It won't stop the door from blowing closed, but that's not usually a problem.

I can help with tweaking the door, but if the wind is blowing hard enough to close it, it's time to keep it shut. Ur right, a center door is way more stout when open.

The pix below my solution made with a piece of ~1" nylon strap. This 'stop' is WAY more robust than the little center stop built into the door. I have this one set just shy of 90 degrees because it stretches and slows the door down, stopping hard at 90 degrees, like a bungee.

Jeff, I remember thinking when you first introduced your ingenious idea of a nylon strap that you could market it and make a lot of money but then I realized that it would have such a limited market. This problem only pertains to a certain vintage of Winnebago diesel pusher. We keep meaning to do that as were were just about ready to buy the 3Ts door stop when we saw your original post. Your idea is so simple and just a brilliant idea.

The 3Ts door stop (click here for those who don't know what I'm referring to) just doesn't look pretty sitting there on the exterior of the coach. Yours is invisible when the door is closed and hardly noticeable when the door is open. Brilliant, simply brilliant.

As I related in another thread, you can always tell there's a Winnebago diesel pusher of our vintage in an RV park because you can hear that infamous pop/crack when the door opens wide.

I just had my 05 journey door apart, don't know if your coach has the same detent, but the problem I had was the roll pin fell out which lets the door go farther than it should. the slide part of the mechanism inside the door has a round hole about 1/4" for a roll pin, the pin hits against a metal plate which has a rubber cushion behind it. If that pin fell out, it would be easy to not realize how it works. also I think there is a bolt on top of the mech. which adjusts the tension.

The problem is the leverage on that stop. It's just fine until the wind either pulls it from your hand or just buffets it when open, slowly springing it to the point that it will distort the door where that stop is
