2003 Adventurer 35U TruCenter Installation

Hi,

I bought a Blue Ox TruCenter and brackets and I have two estimates for installation: $383.00 and $585.00. The higher price includes alignment. I called BlueOx who told me alignment is not necessary, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if these are in the ball park or not? I'm new to this. Does anyone have pictures of their switch location? I'm thinking of having mine installed on the plastic steering column shroud.

Thanks!

Scott

Installed mine myself. Took about 4 hours total.
Biggest problem was removing the nuts on the axle to install the bracket. Used a 24 inch breaker bar and a lot of grunting....
I purchased a switch off ebay that matched the existing switches and found a spare knock-out in the existing panel to the drivers left.
If you don't want to tackle the job yourself, I would think a professional would have the job done in under 2 hours so both your quotes are on the high side IMHO

Scott,

I also did the install (and removal) myself about 4 times. See my post hear.

Just like last poster said, hardest part is the mounting bracket. I used the square switch and mounted next to my gauges.

PS - 4th TruCenter and switching around the mounting plate finally did the trick for me so now mine is working.

I wish I could do the installation myself, however I don't have the time and proper tools.

RVThere, I read thread on the horrors you went through with the shock mount hitting the box. Good fix flipping the bracket I'll be certain to look for that on mine. It would seem that Blue Ox has gotten the problems worked out judging by the more recent posts in that thread. I sure hope so, I don't know if I could take not being able to turn if it happened at speed on an Interstate.

I promise you, I will be listening for the click constantly.

Depending on what the price per hour is would dictate whether the price is too high. I agree with Blue OX, you don't need an alignment unless your tires do show a wear pattern. With the proper tools like an air impact tool the bottom work can be done in less than an hour.....for me the hardest part was finding a 12 volt source and running the wires into the MH. I used the provided button momentary switch and mounted it near the steering wheel so I can just push it with with my left hand while driving and not take my eyes off the road.
The newer model solenoids have been improved so you can't overheat them.

Admittedly, I haven't looked at the switch yet, but is the switch just a momentary contact single pole switch or is it double throw (meaning one depth for left correction and another for right correction)? If the latter, I would have thought it was a rocker switch, center off... dunno.

I'm planning on having the switch in a similar location, Gary. It seems to me to be way better than on the dash.

Installation is scheduled for Saturday.

Momentary, as soon as you release it the solenoid closes.
You press the button and set the wheel where you want and then release. The new model has a time out so the solenoid can't overheat...

I see, now. Thank you, Gary.
