2002 Journey/Allison Tansmission Fluid type?

A friend told me that on my 2002 Journey with a 330 Cat and Allison 3000 transmission, Allison specs say that Dexron fluid is no longer approved...I don't have transynd in the transmission....What can I use other than dexron....Allison site is confusing as to what to use...thanks RKL

I'll be waiting to hear the answer/s. I will be servicing my tranny late fall or early spring and I also have no Transynd in it now. I figure the folks at Gaffney will know what can be used other than Transynd.

Why not contact Allison on the phone and speak to a rep? Has Dexron changed its recipe? My trans hasn't changed. Or does Allison want us all to buy Transynd ?

Why not make the switch to Transynd? I did, at Gaffney, shortly after I bought my previously owned Horizon. Allison extended the warranty, and the transmission service interval to, as I recall, 100,000 miles. The trans also runs cooler with the synthetic. I know this, as I have a SIlverleaf permanently installed, and it displays the trans internal temp.

Once and done!

on edit: Amsoil synthetic ATF is also an excellent choice for the Allison.

not amsoil atf. you should use amsoil torque drive tes295 fluid.

Why not just switch to synthetic? The change interval for synthetic is 48 months versus 12 months for non-synthetic. I think you will find that the two fluids are close enough in price to justify the switch. Allison lists seven brands of synthetic that they recommend. TranSynd is not the only answer. One note: while synthetic fluid change is 48 months, the filter change is 36 months.

Allison recommends TranSynd synthetic, which extends the change intervals. Synthetic runs cooler than dino. I wouldn't hesitiate to switch.

TranSynd is about 2-3X the cost of Dex, but the service intervals go from 12 mos. for Dex to 48 mos for Transynd fluid (36 mos for filters).
