2001 Adventurer Catalitic Converter whoas

I have a 2001 Adventurer with big block Chevy. Had a backfire and now loosing power on hills. Someone told me the cats could be bad I am a diesel man not up on gas. Noticed sensor before the twin cats. Can you eliminate the cats. And yes I know I will never get into Calif. but have no desire to go there. We delete the deff on diesels a lot but don't know about the gas engine.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? That causes loss of power, just like it does in a diesel.

Just changed it. Power drop came after backfire. Seems wen I hit the throttle when cranking it dumped in excess fuel which caused backfire. So I'm told by the folks that are familiar with the gas engine..

Did You get a reading on the obd port? It could tell you a lot. Auto Zone will let you pay for an obd reader and give all your money back when you return it.

The "it" you changed, was that the catalytic converter? Did it fix the problem?

Would bet (if I was a bettor) you have a faultty crankshaft position sensor, was a very common failure, good luck!

Bad coil

I experienced a back fire and lost of power with my 2006 Adventure (Workhorse Engine) and it ended up being a bad coil. When the coil was replaced they also found 2 spark plug wires were rubbing on the engine, so I had all of the wires and spark plugs replaced. Was worth the cost, what a difference in performance.
