Was looking at a new 38T Suncruiser today at local dealer. It has generated a lot of interest from my wife to purchase one.

A couple of things I noticed was that it only had the standard 5,500 watt generator instead of a 7,500 watt version. I think it also had 30 amp service instead of 50 amp service.

How important would it be to have the upgraded units? It also only had a 600 watt inverter. Doesn't this mean that I would still have to fire up the generator to run the microwave, but would it have enough power to run the TV and video player/satellite system?

This layout seemed to have a lot of space for the kitchen and storage in and around it. The 38T floorplan we were looking at was equipped with the sofa dinette, all in leather, and was it ever comfortable (I believe it was all made by FlexSteel).

Chassis is workhorse w/Allison 2100 trans., 22.5 inch tires.

Any comments by anyone having this unit would be appreciated.

I think the 50 amp service would be a must, and the 7.5 KW generator would be on my want list.

We have the 50 amp service and it's really nice having the extra power.

30 amp service is only 3600 watts of power whereas
50 amp service is 12000 watts of power. Over 3 times more power.

I don't have a 38T. I have a 38R.

The 5500w generator will be fine. It'll save a little gas and $$$.

I run a 27" Sony, satellite receiver and DVD player fine from my 300w invertor. Sometimes I also have my 3.4ghz laptop computer on also.
You will not be able to run the micro/conv oven. You'd need a 200w invertor and one is not available for you coach from Winnebago.

Winnebago does not use FlexSteel. They do their own inhouse.

50amp service is good and I opted for it.

The leather is not real leather, it is ultra-leather a faux leather.

We looked at the 38T in Sep and thought the living area in the middle of the coach was too dark during the day. We also did like the fact that with the slides in you have to go through the bathroom to get to the bedroom. Others may like the floorplan and it has lots of possibilities and it is innovative.

It depends on where you go and what you do once you get there. I only have 30 amp but it's rare when I'm at a site with 50 amp hookups. I have friends who had 50 amp but ordered 30 amp on their newest, biggest RV for the same reason- never had a chance to use 50 amps.

Winnebago uses a power management system that allows you to run both AC units on 30 amp. We run the microwave and the AC on 30 amps.

When you talk of running a lot of things off of an inverter remember that you are talking about a tremendous load on batteries.

When you have a 50 amp cord to try to handle, you may wish you had a 30 amp!

Ditto on the power cord - it's a real bear to use and even more so if it's cool outside!

WE also looked at the 38T but it only had a ccc of 1500. I am waiting to see if Winnebago puts the new workhorse 25.5 chassie under it.

You can run both AC units on 30 amp just fine without the energy management system because both compressors draw less that 30 amps total.

Thanks for the feed back, I'll will check on the CCC amount. Thats not really enough for a full load of stuff. I had not noticed that during our walk thru of the unit.

But if the elec wtr htr element comes On w/both AC compressors online, something's going to blow, unless you have EMS working (30A). That's why I'll always opt for 50A svc in a motorhome. I can always dogbone down to 30A if that's all the park has.

I was replying to the quote above. One only needs 30 amp to run both compressors EVEN if the coach does not have the energy management system. Both A/C compressors operating draw less than 30 amp.

And with the management system nothing will ever "blow" because one has no option to turn the system off when plugged into a 30 amp circuit.
