02 Ultimate Freedom Dash Heat Problem

The dash heat unit doesn't provide warm air. I've checked the vacuum operated control valve and both the valve and vacuum pump work.

Is there a valve somewhere on the heater hose from the engine to the dash heat unit?

Does anyone have other suggestions?

What controls the amount of vacuum that is applied to open, close, or partially open the control valve?

Thanks,
Pete P

Is it a diesel???

If your RV is a diesel, there are gate valves on the top and bottom of the engine that need to be open for dash heat.

And as far as the vacuum goes, on a diesel, there a small vacuum pump under the front cowl that should run a few seconds when you turn on the dash heat control switch. You can do that without the engine running and it should run for a while, charge up the air lines and then shut off when pressure is reached.

Our coach is a diesel with a side radiator. The vacuum pump works correctly and operates the valve on the heater hoses. I will look for the gate valves. Thanks for your help

There is an air actuator for your dash heater under the hood, at least in many Winnie '02 diesels, that the rubber hose often ages out and splits. That small vacuum hose goes around and connects on the back of the actuator and it's hard to see the split so it's often overlooked. I've seen several of them with the split (in Winnies of that era) so now if a friend has a dash air issue that's the first thing I check.

Wouldn't hurt to check your vacuum hoses under the hood while you're working on the system.

02 Ultimate Freedom Dash Heat Problem

Thanks for your suggestions and input.

Worked on it a few hours today. Here's what we found:
- The vacuum pump and control valve are working properly
- No vacuum leaks
- No gate valves on the heater hoses from the engine to the front heater unit
- Hot water gets to the control valve when the engine is at higher rpm

We disconnected the hose from the control valve to the heater coil and it appears that there is air in the heater coil. We are thinking about finding a way to release the air where the return hose exits the heater coil. That's the highest point in the system.

Anyone have any suggestions.
