Question 02 Journey step cover

My step cover is not working and doing a search here I found some info on cleaning a relay that controls it. I found the relay/air connections on the firewall and removed the knurled knob being careful not to lose the "O" ring. So what is the next step? Is there something under the knob that pulls out? or do I need to somehow remove the entire relay to clean the connections?

Thanks,

Phil

You are definately in the right area to get your steps operational again. My 02 journey did just this.
Clean both the plunger or whatever under the knurled knobs that unscrew on top and bottom.
I cant recall exactly what i cleaned them up with though, maybe just a rag and some alcohol.
I found some posts that helped me on this.
under the knobs, you pull up on the part you can see, or downward on the ones under.

Thanks! Got the relays off and cleaned them and the posts up but still no go. Did some back tracking and found 2 issues, the air release lever on the dash felt "funny" so took it apart and found it had come disconnected, reconnected it and still no go. Took the switch panel off next to the passenger seat and can get it to work by switching positions of the 2 outer wires so looks like I have a bad switch. Now just need to find a replacement switch.

Glad you found the problem.
Spelling is probably wrong, however a lot of people have reported success ordering parts from a dealer very close the the plant. Its called licksteens or something similar.

I looked up the part number for the switch on the online parts catalog and called Lichtsinn. They told me the part number was correct but the switch has been discontinued and no replacement was listed.
I did check at a couple of Auto Parts stores but no help there. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a replacement?

Thanks,

Phil

Had any luck with the switch? Please post if you find a replacement as I have the same switch and who knows, mine may fail at some point.

I found one on ebay that "may" work. Specs look the same and size looks right but reserving judgment until I have it in hand. Should be at my mail service first of next week and will have it forwarded to me from there.
I'll be sure and let everyone know if it works and provide the supplier and switch info then.

Thanks,

Phil

I wanted to update this thread in case anyone else has the same issue.

I got the switch I ordered from ebay. It is the same size and has the same capacity as the original. The only difference is the original switch is a momentary on and this one has to be manually moved back to the off / middle position.
I installed it today and the step cover is working great, just have to remember to flip the switch back to the off (middle) position manually.

The seller on ebay was nat31409 and it was shipped from Clinton Iowa. No part number on it that I could find but it is discribed as Rocker Switch Black 3pin on/off/on 10A and cost me less then $3.00 including shipping.
