Xantrex inverter in FLX “shutting off”

So I picked up our Micro Minnie FLX on Saturday. We’ve been in and out of it daily not using it, just setting things up. Twice now we have found the 110V idled, off, asleep…not sure what to call it exactly. I read that the inverter will go into a sleep or standby mode and to wake it up it needs to see 25w load but it doesn’t seem to work that way. Since there is no 110V available the next best thing I could think of was to run the slide out. This did not wake it up. The only way I can seem to get it to come back to life is by hooking it up to shore power. Battery shows full when it comes back. This can’t be the way it is supposed to operate is it? Am I missing something? I just worry I’ll be off grid sometime and not be able to “wake it up.”

The inverter on our Vita is either on or off. If you have low battery voltage the inverter will shut down. Then the battery rest, and battery will feed a weak proper voltage until the inverter draws it down. I would check your battery.

Very possible that the Xantrex is in grid mode. While in grid mode, it’s expecting ac voltage to be incoming either from a generator or shore power. It will “pass through” the ac amperage to appliances based on your demand, and it will use available incoming ac amperage to charge your battery. It won’t “wake up” if it’s stuck in grid mode if there’s no ac source. When it’s in battery mode, the Xantrex will provide ac power to your appliances based on demand. Even when it’s in standby mode, it will wake up when it senses an ac load. You would be well served by reading the Xantrex manual. Instructions are there on how to navigate the Xantrex app, and reprogram or adjust settings. If you don’t have the manual, you can download it from the Xantrex website. Here is the Xantrex Freedom XC user guide for the remote panel: https://xantrex.com/wp-content/uploa...uide_ENG-3.pdf

Thanks for the replies. I read through the manual and a post on this forum that cleared up a couple settings I believe were incorrect from the factory. I don’t believe it was in standby mode as I didn’t have access to any 110V devices (TV or Microwave) to even put a load on it to bring it out of standby. I’m hooked up to shore power and will be through the weekend so I won’t be able to verify my changes to the settings are making any difference. Didn’t think about it until after I posted it but the slide is 12V so that’s not going to bring it out of standby if it is in standby. I’m not sure how it would get stuck in grid mode as it was functioning in battery mode the last time I was in it and the next day the remote panel is blank, and no power to the microwave or TV to put a load on. I will look into this a little to make sure though. Battery app showed 99% so I don’t think that’s the issue. Hope I can figure it out before next weekend. Going to boondock a couple nights and no access to 110v wouldn’t be ideal.

When your RV is attached to shore power there is no need for the inverter to be turned on, it's just useless wear N tear on the unit.
When not attached to shore power, the inverter is drawing from the battery bank even when nothing is being used, it's called standby mode. This slowly runs down your house battery bank for no valid reason.
There are no 12VDC powered items that run through the inverter, it would be redundant..

Sorry Ray, but OP’s Micro Minnie came equipped with a hybrid inverter/charger. It performs two functions: inverting to change dc to ac, and converting to change ac to dc. It switches to grid mode when an ac source (generator or shore power) is present, and stays on unless you turn it off. When the Xantrex is installed, the old WFCO converter is disconnected and removed entirely. So yes, this inverter should always be on, not off or standby when on SP. It’s the primary source to charge the batteries. When there is no ac present, the Xantrex can be on, off or in standby. In stanby, it wakes up to service any ac load when present. I turn mine off when boondocking, unless I need some ac power for a short period, as it does have an unwanted dc draw when in standby.

So far since we have gotten back from our first “shakedown” trip the Xantrex inverter is still “on” and the camper has been sitting untouched for over 48 hours. After comparing recommended settings from another thread in this forum I believe it may have been the standby mode which is now disabled. I’ll probably still call Xantrex to find out the best way to get it out of standby if that is indeed what was going on. I figured if this is normal or a setting someone on here would have experienced it as well, but it doesn’t sound like it. Interestingly in the other thread discussing the settings it appears that most of mine were already changed by the factory or dealer compared to what others owners were seeing that needed changing.

Thanks for explaining how it is configured. Sometimes this old grunt feels like I still have mud in my head.

My old RS2000 model Xantrex also has standby mode, it may be set for the wattage draw desired it detects and frequency of said detection.
The Xantrex website has free operators manual downloads for all their products.

How are you checking the battery level? if you can grab screenshots of what the apps are saying, that would be great.

ours has a Lithionics battery so we use that app but some other FLX owning friends have a Xantrex branded app that talks to the Lithionics battery.

edit:

in the Travel Trailers subform, SactoSteve has a lot of great information about the Xantrex settings. The units are not always getting set up right when they leave the factory and the dealers aren't too good at doing that either.

72 hours and still functioning. Must have been the settings I changed. I believe I referenced the post you mention Medic to get the recommended settings. I don't think as many of mine were different from the recommended as some people are saying but still I had a couple. I did disable the standby mode so that may have been it. When I first had the issue I checked the battery level on both the Xantrex app and the Lithionics app and both showed full charge. Stranegly though now that I have changed the settings the Xantrex app is showing 75% and the Lithionics is at 99%. I know I changed the battery type LFP maybe that's why it is only showing 75% now.

Thanks for posting this thread. Our battery shut off at 4am one morning and 2am on another. After getting frustrated with dealer response and xantrix lack thereof, I found this thread and suggested hubs try to change the auto shutoff timing as suggested. He set it to 25 hours and that solved it! Full nights sleep on night 3 on solar/battery power.

We also had to change the battery type from flooded to AGM. Really wonder whether Winnebago isn’t providing correct set up or dealer’s service dept is not trained.

And we also get different readings between xantrix and lithionics apps.

Is there a reason that you didn't set it to Lithium?

and yeah, the two read different. I am not sure why. I ignore the Xantrex app on that one and trust the Lithionics app. it's strange.

some friends in TX got a FLX too and they had a Xantrex logo on the Lithionics app, which was even MORE bizarre! (it was also reading different than the app that the inverter was talking to.)

it'd be nice to have ONE APP TO RULE THEM ALL.

Yeah, Lithium

Our last trailer had AGM, we reset to Lithium. Brain fart, sorry.

Winnebago response re Power Save Mode

Power save mode should not be the regular setting for the converter, as this setting was for transporting the unit from factory to dealership. Ive attached information on the power save mode below. Please let me know if this resolves the issue.

They will need to press and hold the OK button on the inverter remote for 3 seconds or until the screen starts flashing, then use the arrow up key to navigate through the menu to setting 06 and make this change. Or they can use the app, just be sure to go through a power cycle if doing so for the changes to take effect.

Thank you,
