Wnegard RV-3090 amplified TV antenna

I’m resurrecting a 94 Vectra and wondering if the old antenna is capable of picking up digital tv signals? I’m in the process of removing the analog tv so trying to learn if the oem antenna needs to go also.

There is no difference between analog and digital as far as the signal goes, so yes, you antenna will receive digital broadcasts.

However, with the shift that came with the digital change, many stations moved from VHF to UHF broadcast frequencies. Most of the early antennas focused on VHF, where most of the stations were broadcasting (channels 2-13).

To improve your reception on your existing antenna, you might want to consider adding the Winegard Wingman product. It's basically a UHF add-on. Adding it to your existing antenna (confirm that it does fit) would give it essentially the same reception as the newer Sensar antennas from Winegard. Should only run you about $25 or so.

It's the tuner in the TV (or external- there were a few digital add ons for analog TVs made back in the mid-late 2000s - I had one) that translates the signal. The antenna can be a coat hanger as long as it's connected to a digital tuner of some sort. Almost all TVs since the mid 2000s have digital tuners by default.
