I have always used 15-40 in the last three motorhomes I have owned that had generators. Never had a problem with any of them, so long as I maintained the start and run program monthly.

Ken, Dan, Homer - Great inputs. You guys have just provided for me the final confirmation for using 15W40 full synthetic in my thirteen year old Onan - and I will exercise it more regularly from now on. I use Mobil 1 multi-vis in all of my vehicle engines, including the coach, so it should make sense to use it in the generator engine; you have now confirmed that it does.

My thanks to all of you.

I could never get a yes or no from Onan, but he oil exceeded the Onan specifications, so let it run and no problems.

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">you are adding a load to the generator so the armatures will start working to produce the electrical current at a higher amperage. This causes the armatures in the generator to warm up --- actually get hot which in turn drives out any residue moisture which can and will build up in the generator due to "non use." The goal is to exercise the motor as well as warming up the armature and getting rid of the moisture which will shorten the life of your generator.

Thank for the explaination. I am new to this (RV) and it makes sense.
