What is this thing ?

Inside my battery compartment located on the left side wall there is a devise that connects up to positive side of house battery. The other side of this devise there is a cable that goes off "somewhere", not sure where yet. What is this devise and what is it's purpose? It's "Made in Mexico". Thanks in advance ?

This is one of those times that a picture would be worth a thousand words.

Is it a flat piece about 4" long with brown bakelite material in the center? If so it's a fuse.

Yup, fuse. It's shown on your battery installation drawing.
