Victron Smartshunt Installation

I have a 2018 View and just bought a Victron Smartshunt. The manual says to install it in a waterproof area. The View batteries are under the entry step, and the compartment is not watertight.

Has anyone installed a Victron Smartshunt there? Where did you mount it?

I don't have a View, but my batteries are in a compartment that is sealed on the left, right and top, but not the bottom or the rear wall. The 4 batteries are on a tray that is the "floor" of the compartment but it doesn't cover the entire floor and the rest of the area is open.

I have my SmartShunt attached to a wall in this compartment. So, it is in an open area but it doesn't really get wet in there, though it does get dusty from road dirt.

I've not had any problems.

Also some folks buy a plastic box to put the shunt into. I found this one below at another forum. I don't know where they got the box but I'm sure you could find something like this if you need to.

Also, below is my exposed SmartShunt and you can see some dirt around it on the compartment wall.

PS. I have 3-negative loads and use a buss bar for those. That's why you only see one negative load cable on my SmartShunt.

It's probably a plastic, weatherproof electrical junction box with a clear cover similar to this:

On our 2016 View I have had the Victron 712 shunt mounted in the upper side wall of the exposed battery area for a couple of years without any problems. I check it for dirt and corrosion when I check the batteries and haven't done anything besides wiping the dirt off a couple of times.
Regards, Mike
