I plan to replace the starter motor in my 1991 Elante. Chevrolet P30 chassis, 454 gas engine. The choice at Napa surprised me. They have a "performance" starter, rated at 2 Kilowatts for $230, or the standard starter, rated at 1.4 Kilowatts for $65. The price difference shocked me. Opinions?

An old bespeckeled white haired guy at Advance Autoparts came to the rescue. He knew there were only two part numbers for old Chevy starters, and went back in the stock room and found a much heavier and bigger starter than the ones recommend by the computer. It was even more robust than the "performance" starter at the other place. It was an exact match! I think his secret is to NOT use 1991 as the year, but instead 1985.
$65. All seems to work well.
That is some preventative maintenance money well spent I think.
