Properly Charging New House Batteries

I have just installed new AGM 31 Series batteries in my 2015 Aspect 30J; (105 AH). After reading and searching through many forum articles, I understand that the new AGM batteries should be charged differently than regular Flooded Lead Acid batteries. Where do I make the change for the charge rate on the new AGM ... on the inverter or converter ?

Thank you in advance for any assistance,
MovingMann

I am not certain what your charger is, on our 2011 Aspect 30 it had a converter/charger. My guess is you have something like a PD9245 converter. If that is true there is no manual change to make. It will not harm the AGM and actually it is better suited to AGM than FLA. If you have solar there probably is a setting on that controller for AGM etc.

Send a message via Yahoo to Pianotuna
Charge the AGM until rate of acceptance is 0.5 amps per 100 amp-hours of storage.

I know how to do that, I can do that. Does the OP have a battery monitor or a Fluke? Does he have a $3000 battery charger? Just put the batteries in the rig and use them. The PD9245 has enough stages and smarts to keep em working a long time without damaging them. Eventually, in the right conditions, his PD9245 will achieve that charge state but it is nothing to worry about at all, zip. RV's never achieve perfect conditions except for the most OCD among us.

There are a gazillion web pages out there, some are by really capable folks and some are just hot air. Many of them have little to do with the reality of using and working batteries in the RV. The OP has a LP fridge so his batteries should go around 5 - 6 years, perhaps a tad longer with luck and no "bad" discharges. Of course I'm guessing he has installed all load and charge to one battery POS and the most NEGative ground is on the other.
