Portable Satellite

Tried to hook up Dish Network dish to the portable sat port in cargo area in our Itasca 38R and can't get a signal. Any thing special I need to do?

In my Discovery, I had to unhook the other end of that cable from the distribution box and hook it directly into the Dish Network box. Then HDMI cable from the Dish box to the TV.

This coach doesn't have a distribution box. It just has 3 output ports near tv. These ports say output from roof sat 1, roof sat 2 and portable sat dish.

Thanks

What dish are you using and what Satellite Dish and network box are are you using? I use the Winegard X2 dish and the 211z box. Since the box provides the power to the dish for it to work, that is the reason it must be connected directly to the cable and not go through any kind of switch. Keep in mind I know next to nothing about this stuff.

The receiver is a VIP 211 HD box. The Sat dish is my Dish 1000 HD that I use for my house. Ran cable from dish to cargo portable dish then ran cable from inside portable outlet to receiver, then HDMI cable to tv. Did check switch test, and no signal.

Tazz6, the cables are the same in all of the 38R's so remove the Satellite output wall plate up front and the input wall plate in the cargo area and check the coax connections. I have heard of them not being connected correctly.
Sat Dish 1 should have one org band
Sat Dish 2 should have two org bands
Portable Sat Dish should have one gold band.
Cable TV should have one red band

We use a Tailgater with out Dish 211z in our Forza 34T when roof mounted dish is obscured by trees. Attach portable to portable connection in bay and move inside connection (distribution panel) from roof mount to portable, then restart VIP 211z. It automatically goes into set up for portable.

On my 38R the portable sat connection is in the compartment where the electrical cord is. The connection in the electrical bay is cable red, portable nothing. In coach connection is roof sat gold, portable sat nothing. I hooked receiver straight to my home HD Sat and everything worked.

Tazz6, one other place to look is behind the One Place Panel. It does not show it on any of the online drawings but on most coaches there is a spice in the coaxes where they transition from the roof to the floor. Just a guess on this one.

Any idea where this is. Have no clue where it coud be. The problem is somewhere in the cables. Signal meter shows no signal at all

You indicated 3 connections on the inside. Have you tried each? They may just be labeled wrong.

Otherwise hook the dish directly to the receiver by running thru a window just to verify everything is working. Now you have some known good equipment and cables to trial and error with.

I run cable from my home dish through door to receiver and got signal and was able to set up receiver. On the 3 connections on the inside 2 have cables to them one doesn't. The one to roof satalite has cable, the potable satalite has cable and the 2nd to roof satalite has none.

Tazz6, the One Place Panel is where your level monitor and generator starting controls are at. There is a vertical screw at the top and bottom that will allow you to look behind the complete panel.

Winnebago is famous for hooking up cables wrong. I would check to make sure that the sat is hooked to the sat and cable hooked to cable. One of my units had these reversed from the factory.

Don't I know that!! We put a Winegard Traveler satellite system on our 15 Winnebago 35F and the coach was wired wrong from the factory and then when we bought the 15 Itasca 36G we had the dealer move it over the that coach and mind you the 36G is supposedly already prewired for the Winegard Traveler so it should've been an easy job for my dealer BUT low and behold the new rig was wired incorrectly from the factory as well. Only the main TV was getting a signal. It took multiple phone calls to Winnebago by me and the dealer to get it sorted out.....

I have a similar problem in my 2005 Voyage. If the Tailgater is attached directly to the Dish 211 receiver using the supplied RG6 cable, the signal is perfect, including HD for local channels. If I use the "outdoor satellite" cable in the RV (connected to the fitting in a panel in the electrical bay and to its other end in the cabinet adjacent to the TV), I don't get the HD signal on local channels.

I have tried using different cables between the receiver and the panel inside the cabinet, but that makes no difference.

I am wondering whether the cable inside the RV is something other than RG6, and if that makes a difference.

Jbuntin, check the connectors on the back of the wall plates for looseness, corrosion and quality of the crimp on the F connector to the coax. Also check the color code on the coaxes to make sure they match at both ends.
