My rv has been plugged into shore power for a week. just went outside and heard a clicking noise coming from the generator...(not like it was trying to start but a ligth solenoid clicking sound) ...so i attempted to turn on the generator and it came on ...I let it run for 20 minutes and shut it off ...the noise went away. anyone have any idea what is going on?

I wonder if by chance it had a stuck relay keeping the fuel pump powered up? If you catch it doing it again try unplugging the remote control wiring and see if it stops. If so you may have a short in the wiring to the switch(s) inside the coach.

yep...your right did it again and the red light on the switch on the gen started blinking and heard clicking again...when you say short you mean two wires together or a bad switch...?

i did disconnect the harness and it stopped.
i'm wondering if i have a bad ec 30 auto gen starter...

checking switches now...

Did you try to read the generator fault codes? (If any).

Well, I made sure all my electrical connections were tight and pressed the stop button three times in five seconds to get the last code..

code 41 came up "generator rotor fault"
(controller unable to sense field or output voltage)

Since checked my connections like the RVwizard suggested my clicking noise has stopped, but it usually takes a day to occur after I run the generator so I'll keep you posted.

Funny thing is when i went into the fault mode to see the last code my ems lights started flasing..

didn't even think to look for the blinking light error code thanks!

FYI Found out what the clicking noise was on the EC30.

Onan bulleting number 696 - If you have a KY or a HGJAB generator and you let the EC 30 sit in manual mode for 30 days without disconnecting the DC or engaging the safety the following error might occur..."EC 30 will cause the fuel pump to continuously prime....Correction Change software to version 2.00 affected serial range is 3125 and 7751)

I am waiting for the updated EC 30 to arrive and keep everyone posted.

Since this was the first time I have heard of this problem I thought I was share the experience. We came home from an evening event and I heard a “clicking” noise coming from the motor home. It appeared to be generator trying to prime itself. I checked the battery levels and they were okay so I started the generator and then shut it off. No more clicking. Two days later; more clicking. I searched this site and found the following:

I realized this was the first time we have stayed in one place for over 30 days; so I am thinking I have found the problem. My EC has version 1.5 and apparently needs to be 2.0 (or higher??). I called the local Onan place but they never heard of the problem. They are going to check whether I can come in for the upgrade or just swap my Energy Command board.
Has anyone experienced this; other than Peter Griffin back in January?

I have a similar problem with my Attitude Toyhauler.I keep it plugged in 24/7 when not using to keep batteries up.This is my third trailer and never had this problem before.I came out to get mail, heard noise at the gen, when to go start and the light was on solid and nothing would work.Unplugged the battery still nothing, unplugged the trailer from 110 and it quit, hooked batteries back up,light was out and all worked OK no clicking, turned off the gen,no clicking, plugged back in and clicking started within 2 min
