Onan 3200 QD replacement

New to this forum, I have a 2010 Winnebago via with an owner 3200 generator. I have over 100,000 miles on the motor home and almost 900 hours on the generator. It is time to replace the current generator in the motorhome.

My question is is there a better replacement than eight 3200 generator. While it has performed well for us, I had been told, by Cummins and repair shops, ‘‘this is a uncommon generator with limited service and parts availability. Does a different replacement generator exist, is it possible to retrofit a different Cummins model? If anyone has knowledge on this I would appreciate their feedback thank you.

Onan doesn't make diesel RV gens between 3200w and 6000w but they do make a 3800w Propane genset. That might work for you.

Cummins Onan RV QG 3600 LP—Onan 3.6 LP Generator| 3.6KYFA-26120

It's a bit less expensive to buy new than a 3200w QD and weighs just 178 pounds with a compact design of 30 inches wide x 19.7 inches deep x 14.4-inches high. The QD weighs 205 lb. and is 30.2" wide, 17.3" deep and 18" tall. So, outside of being 2.4" wider it's smaller in every dimension.

I believe that the QD 3200 is no longer made, thus limited parts. I bet the core engine is still good, but the other external stuff is probably at the end of its life.

Look on Norwall's website at https://www.norwall.com/categories/RV-Generators/. They are one of the biggest if not the biggest dealer/distributors of Onan RV generators. They don't have the QD3200 listed, only the QD6000 which probably won't fit and has much more power than you will ever need.

The only reasonable replacement for a diesel powered MH is an LPG powered one. Onan makes a new inverter based propane fueled 2500 model. If you can get by with 2,500 watts then that is the one I would replace yours with. You may have to add a soft start kit for it to start your A/C.

If you need more power then the Onan 3600 LP should work but it is not inverter based. Sooner or later Cummins should come out with an inverter based version. If you can I would wait for the inverter based model. It is more efficient and less noisy.

I don't know of any other manufacturer of air cooled, compact RV style generators.

Edit: Cretivepart and I did a good job covering this question together, right ;-).
