Is there a reason this would not work. It would be between the power pole and the electronics inside the coach.
I am looking at the EMS - HW50C 50 AMP.
For a quick bypass if this unit fails I suggest doing the following. I have a similar setup.
1// Wire the following outlet to the ATS end of the shore cord: https://www.amazon.com/MICTUNING-Fem...527183&sr=8-10
2// Wire this plug to the input of the EMS: https://www.amazon.com/MICTUNING-Rep...5527183&sr=8-6
3// Wire this outlet to the output of the EMS: https://www.amazon.com/MICTUNING-Fem...527183&sr=8-10
4// Wire this plug to the input of the ATS: https://www.amazon.com/MICTUNING-Rep...5527183&sr=8-6
Plug the input to the EMS into the shore cord outlet. Plug the ATS plug into the EMS outlet. Plug the shore cord into the pedestal.

If the EMS fails you can move the ATS plug to the shore cord outlet after the shore power problem is cleared that my have caused the EMS to fail.

Ye you can do that - as long as you have the proper electrical knowledge and tools to wire up correctly. But the same manufacturers also make on-board units, designed to be wired in place inside your shore power cord compartment. Not only that, those units usually provide a lot more checks and protections than the remote units do.
