Any info or history if it is on a motorhome or a trailer?
If it is part of OEM on a Winnebago pulling back the cover on the wiring loom may let you find the codes printed on the side of wires and look to the Wire ID chart for info as what they connect.
Looks like a sensor of some sort but no telling what it fits without some info.

Given the year/model of your coach you can go here Wiring Diagrams and get the full wiring diagrams for your coach.

Looks like it might be a Carling brand switch. The part number on the side of it can be searched to tell what style it is, which may lend a clue. Based on the photos, it looks like a single pole single throw switch with a pilot light in the ON position. Are there any rectangular switch-sized holes within reach of that cable that might give a clue?

Thanks that’s what it looks like all right!
Guess I’ll replace the switch and turn it off and on and see what the heck happens.

It probably works, it looks like the toggle is missing, you can see how it's toggled to one side. It's toggled toward what looks like an indicator LED which would make me think it's in the "on" position but the LED isn't lit, so it may be non-operable or disconnected.
The idea of exposing the wire code is a good one.
Here's a link to the wiring code list.

Not knowing the state of the switch, I would just pull the 2 connectors off of it. Then the circuit is definitely open or off. Then touch them together, and it's definitely ON.

By wiring code, we mean something like this and from this list:
https://www.winnebago.com/Files/File...ical_guide.pdf
Possible peel back to read the codes on the wire and then the list gives "from" and "to" locations?

It looks like it might have been pulled down from somewhere higher up. If we had your exact model, and more info on the exact location of your photo, we might be more help.
There are model-specific wiring diagrams at the link below. The "Body 12V Wiring Installation" diagram shows the location of each item, switch, etc.

UPDATE:
It IS a rocker switch with the rocker missing and it turns the water pump on and off .
Don’t know why it’s under there but it is.

Sometimes the really small details help a lot.
Upon further review?
I see there is a panel missing, so it brings the question of whether there is a space on that missing panel to hold this switch and then knowing it is a pump switch and turning the picture right side up lets us see that the wiring heads way down into the dark right by the pump!
I might guess that it is there as a convenient way to start/stop the pump when using the clear plastic suction tube to winterize the RV.
Yup! It looks like a pump switch but where's the panel that goes with it?
