Magnum 2812 into '04 Journey 36G

Anyone swap out their Journey's Dimension for a ME-2812? My Dimension is mounted on the left side of the electrical compartment. Mounting a 2812 in the same spot would put the vents down--which Magnum lists as a no-go. Anyone else made this swap and have details on the mount?

I had a '05 FD. Built a raised shelf out of corner iron. Don't weld so I braised it together. Worked fine for the remaining years we had the coach.

Which controller did you get? I just upgraded mine today. The inverter version is 3.7 and the new controller requires a 4.0 for all the features to function. I have a email posted to the support folks.

Rick, sounds like a good option, I'll have to take a look at the possibility of building a small shelf.

Looks like the other wrinkle in this is the distance from the current inverter to battery bank (about 8ft). According to Magnum, the 2800w would require doubled 4/0!

Here is a wire sizing calculator: Voltage Drop Calculator - for single and 3 phase ac systems and dc systems

Using the above calculator I come up with a 1.9% voltage drop with 8 feet of 4/0 cable with 230 amps of 12V power. That is for a pair of wires, i.e. a plus and minus pair. 230amps is about the max the inverter would pull.

Personally I prefer 1% max loss, but for the distance 1.9% is not bad.

Another thing to remember is you are very unlikely to pull 230amps very often for very long.

The microwave will pull about 140-150amps of 12V through the inverter. You could be running a coffee maker, toaster, hair drier, etc, at the same time. Again not for a very long time.

Worth doing. You probably have 2/0 now. You could use 'C' tap connections and run another 2/0 in parallel. Getting a solid mechanical compression is very important.
