Over heated plug , and the melt down , is an indication of a very poor connection , the over heating caused a drop in power supplied to the RV and has probably damaged the A/C compressor or at least the start-up condensers .

Agree with the comment on low power, sounds like the power dropped below 106 volts or so. Newer A/C units are starved for power at that level and below and will quite often be damaged.

When a breaker continues to trip its telling you stop trying that there is a problem that needs to be sorted out.

That should read " start up capacitors "

davegerr-

A properly-installed power protection unit will cut off your coach's electrical input should voltage sag below acceptable norms. It will reduce your chances of expensive A/C damage, as well as damage to other electronics in your coach. It sounds as if you don't already have one. As part of your repairs, you should buy one.

It's worth paying the money for one from Progressive Industries. The hard-wired units are the EMS-HW30C (30A) and EMS-HW50C (50A). Here's a link to the Web page. There are portable units as well. Do not buy the less expensive units with just surge protection. They won't help with brownouts (low voltage input).

Many years ago capacitors and condensers were synonymous. So you calling them condensers went unnoticed.

Thought at first you were talking about a phone, ie "landline". Try shore cord or power cord next time.

Two thoughts which may help in the future, or help others, First never plug in or remove the cord "hot" always turn the breaker off. Second, before plugging in inspect the outlet for burn marks and/or corrosion .Request another site, don't set up your electrical system for a failure due to improper connection. Always be sure the plug is in tight to the outlet and your brass contacts are clean.

Before our new coach was delivered I ordered the Progressive 50 amp hard wired unit and installed it in series with the Winnebago Transfer switch/surge protector. When first plugging in the contactors in each one close with a definite thunk, thunk. Then I check the readout for voltage indicated before using any appliances.

Hope the repairs are minimal at best, does sound like the start capacitors are toast.
