Inverter upgrade

I do not know anything about Inverters, But if I wanted to upgrade the factory inverter in my 94 Brave, what would be a reasonable choice?
Thanks for help.

Inverter to create 120 volts alternating current from the batteries while dry camping or a better converter for charging up the batteries?

For charging the Progressive Dynamics with the Charge Wizard is hard to beat.

I told you I did not know anything about inverters. I guess I meant a better inverter to maintain the house batteries.
Thanks for the magazine info, and the suggestions for a couple inverters. I will get the mag and check them out.
Thanks, gents!

Your 94 Brave should have an old style MagnaTech Converter thats pretty brutal on the batteries. A 45 or 60 amp Progressive Dimensions with a Charge Wizard would be among my first choices. Match it to the size of the cable going to the batteries and the breaker that is feeding it from the main panel. Also check the 12 volt pop-up that is located between the Converter and the batteries since you need to stay within the limits that one or on high charge you will be tripping it.

The converter that Neil mentioned and others can be found at bestconverter.com. I recently replaced our Magnatek 6300 with the 45 amp replacement found on their website. It it much better than the OEM equipment on most older RV's. Even if you don't buy from them you can look at the installation pictures. They are very helpful.

Yes, my old one is the Magnetech 6300, 45 amp. I believe the circuit breaker is a 40 amp. Thanks for the info and pointers. This upgrade will be the next project when I get home.

I keep the old Magnatek as a 12 volt power source for the work bench and as a battery charger for overnight charges. No fancy charging gauge and such but it gets the job done and works fine for charging batteries overnight and testing 12 equipment in the workshop. Just don't leave this battery boiler connected to batteries for maintaining them.

I just could not bear trashing a working piece of equipment and could not in good conscience sell it for someone to ruin their house batteries with.

Over the years I have done some research on this subject. Magnum makes a great inverter and is what I have in this coach. Consider the true sine wave type. Today some folks are going to lithium batteries. This takes a special charger but the battery bank will give you lots of dry dock time in the same space of the wet cells.

Just so we are on the same page, the inverter is a AC generator from the battery DC input in one direction and a battery charger when fed AC.

It really depends on your needs. If you want 2,000 watts plus, then I'd recommend an inverter/charger and would go with a Pure Sine Wave model. There used to be a big price difference between modified and pure sine wave inverters, but not so much any more. I second Magnum as being a great choice.

Keep in mind you may (likely) will be changing battery cables and fuses and may want more battery capacity.

If he has a 45 A converter he does not have enough battery for a 2000 W inverter. That is a 1 or 2 battery setup.
