Inverter battery draw

Gents..

I have a 05 Journey, if you turn on the inverter but have no 110 load on it does the inverter use much 12 volt power draw with not load?

It will have some draw. How much is dependent on the make and model of the inverter. Find the specifications of your inverter, they should state the no-load current draw.

Yes it could be about a half an amp from the 12 volt battery. I would suspect that your 2005 Journey has the same inverter as my 2004 Chieftain, a 2kw Dimensions. When I'm dry camping I shut her down overnight.

As other have said, there will be some draw with no load - usually about .5a.
When off via remote switch, there is usually still some draw - reduced from that of no load.
When off at the switch on the inverter it depends - some still have a smaller draw where some do not.

Need to check the specs on your specific model inverter.

I have just put in some solar panels and a trimetric meter to monitor the use by the system. When I have the inverter on and no other 12 volt or 110 volt item on the inverter draws 6.3 amps. The inverter is a 2kw Dimensions. It could be that the inverter/charger has problems but it has been working over the last year. I do find that the voltage when I plug in and have to have it charge the batteries is quite high.

You have to consider the "residual loads" - the clock on the microwave, digital TVs on standby, the inverter itself and who knows what else is connected to outlets fed by the inverter. All are minimal but they add up.

If that is a Dimensions 2000W inverter, IIRC, the idle draw is somewhere around 4A. Takes allot of power to keep those FET's alive
