Yes it does turn on. But you have to turn it off. For the hotspot to work the wifi or Bluetooth must be on. The iPhone turns them both on. But you can turn off the blue tooth and leave the wifi on. The blue tough is interfering with your camera.

I tried it again to make sure bluetooth was off and as soon as I turned the camera on I lost my wi-fi.

Does it knock the iPhone off-line or the computer that you're on the Wi-Fi

Try this. Turn off your camera. Do a full reset on your iPhone. Turn on your wifi. Make sure ask to join wifi switch is on. Turn off your Bluetooth. You should not be joined to any wifi signals. Once on-line and running. Turn on your camera. See what happens.

I can't help with your camera issue, but if I could interupt with a quick question. Is your Iphone a 4G (Iphone 5) or a 3G. I am planning to use my I4 but I would trade up if the 4G is that much better. I hope you get your camera straightned out.
Thanks
Tom

I did reset the network settings, which did not help. I need to download Itunes so I can save my phone book before I do a full reset. to far from home to loose all my numbers.

Pushing your top button and your home button around button in the front of the iPhone hold them both in until The phone shuts off and then continue holding it until you get the Apple logo then release them
