It seems that I am going to have to purchase 3 new house batteries for my 2004 36G Journey. If I'm not mistaken, these are special batteries. I need advice on the best place to buy these batteries and the approximate cost per battery that I can expect.

For your house batteries you want deep cycle batteries. Deep cycle batteries have thicker lead plates and are designed to withstand deep discharges. Lots of people like Interstate deep cycle batteries - I used them on my boat until I went to Prevailer gels.

Some switch to Trojan 6V golf cart batteries (T-105s?) but I don't have a clue if you have the room for six of them.

Don't know about the price

I just recently replaced my three house batteries on my 02 Journey. I considered AGM's but they were more than I wanted to spend with my current use of the rig. I also considered using four 6V golf car batteries. In the end, I used 3 group 29 Interstate deep cycle batteries....$79 each at local Interstate distributor.

There is a good chance your batteries are still covered under warranty, even if you are not the original owner. Most batteries will have a 5 to 7 year warranty. Find a dealer or parts store who sells the brand that you now have. They will check the date code on the batteries and use that as a basis to pro-rate the warranty.

Freshness of the batteries is important. I usually purchase batteries at Wal Mart. Their batteries are usually less than one month old when I get them and priced right. They carry deep cycle batteries.

My choice will be for the four 6 volt batteries as well when my 3 12 volts need replacement. I used 2 6 volts in my 5ver, and the performance was WAY better than the 12 volts.

Try the Trogans as suggested, if they fit on your rack, you wont be dissapointed.

Ken, what did you pay for the 6 volt Trojans?

When I replaced my 3 twelve volt for 4 6 volt Trojan T105's they were approx $70 each...they will fit in the rack end to end in two rows...there should still be pictures on this site under my pictures (kenbt)...and the existing battery cable will work without buying any

I just replaced my 2 year old house batteries, with 2 bought from Wal-Mart. But I was using them alot. The Deep Cycles cost me about $140, with a core charge, tax & license (lol). I need to return the old ones for a refund of the core charge. Batteries had gone dry of fluid and adding new distilled water did not help. REMEMBER check the battery levels!

Winnie OEM is Interstate SRM-29's (after the group 31's were recalled). Per the Interstate web site these batteries have only a 30 month warranty.

I've been thinking/researching what I will do when mine original 12v need to be replaced for some time. I'm pretty much set on switching to four 6V for the higher amp hours.

I'd like to go AGM for long life, better voltage discharge/charging curves and no maintenance. I looked at John Canfield's fav brand (Lifeline). List for their model GPL-4C is over $250 each!!! If decide to make this investment I'll probably just have to go all out and add a couple of 200w solar panels, charge controller and Link Emeter too.
