Generator failure '19 View with Onan 3200 diesel generator

Problem with 2019 View with Onan 3200 diesel generator that fails. Brand new unit purchased this month returned to dealer 2 days after purchase. Generator shuts off unexpectedly. According to Cummins the generator return fuel line is tied into the vehicle return fuel line causing back pressure exceeding 10 psi and generator failure. Apparently, this generator is supposed to have a separate return fuel line but that is not the way Winnebago did the install. Cummins cannot fix and vehicle was returned to dealer. Only way to correct is to run independent fuel line from generator to diesel tank.

Interested in knowing if other Winnebago owners have similar issue. This looks like a significant design flaw on the part of Winnebago.

My 3200D runs just fine. I would get on the phone with Winnebago ASAP and get Service to pull in someone who knows how the system should be plumbed. It could be as simple as a kink in the return line. As far as a design flaw - there are too many out there being used daily without problems. Design flaws would affect all of them.

You might want to trace the line back to the tank yourself and see if it really does share the return line with the engine.

Yeah, it is always helpful to include exact year, make, model of the rig in the discussion. We have just over 100 hours on our little diesel generator in the 18V24D, no issues at all. Usually the Cummins/Onan shops are pretty good at diagnosis so I would be on the phone to WGO, make sure your service center is talking to them and get it done. It could be the Onan shop is correct and as posted above it could be a simple fix. Hard to believe WGO did the return line wrong, easy to imagine a kink or other line issue.

I have had the same issue, with the generator over revving and failing.
Contact me if you would like to discuss.

Mercedes does not provide a return on the tank for the generator. Winnebago has been splicing into the Mercedes fuel return line since the product was introduced back in 2007 per the Auxiliary Diesel Fuel Tap bulletin from Mercedes.

Under what conditions are you seeing the issue? Worst case in terms of fuel pressure is when the Mercedes engine is idling.

Here is a link to the Auxiliary Diesel Fuel Tap, official from Mercedes bulletin dated 2010. Just so you know. Read or peruse all the way.

Thanks Kayak!!! Always great to have the Up Fitter's Guidance!

Seeing this problem with the 3200 diesel genny..... again and again.... makes a Crow glad he has the 3600 LP. Not trying to be snarky but it seems like the LP units have a lot fewer problems and maintenance issues.
