Gen question
i have a 2004 journey. The gen run fine last year.It acts like it is not getting fuel and wont start.can i go under it and take the fuel line loose from the gen put in a small bucket and try to start the gen and see if it is getting fuel?do most of these older motorhome run off of one fuel pump or do they have 2 different puel pumps? THanks

sewerdog, We had a 03 Journey and the diesel generator has it own fuel pump. So you can disconnect the fuel line a put it in a bucket.
Do you hear the fuel pump when you press the stop button to prime the engine. Manual saids hold it down for 1 minute.

yes i have done that.I got under one day unhoocked the lines to the fuel filter didnt get but maybe a drop or two. I had been trying to start it.It might be the fuel filter so i was going to see if was was getting diesel to the filter and the filter might be stopped up.It has sit in the same spot since i last went camping.I might drive it around the block and park on a hill facing down hill and try it? it has a half of tank of fuel in it.I also checked the 3 fuses and they are ok.

THanks

Do you have a Battery Boost Switch on the Dash? If so try using it with the engine running.
What is the outside temperature at you location?

Clean battery cables and ground cable connections, maybe also connect battery jumpers to gen.

sewerdog, from the drawing below there are a couple of relays in the circuit to get power to the generator. This panel in upfront on the driver side. With a volt meter check and see what the 12VDC is doing when you try to start the generator. Check both sides of the relays looking for a place the voltage is dropping.
The relay on the left is closed when the engine is running or you press the boost switch. The relay on the right is the coach battery disconnect relay. So unless the engine is running or the boost is pushed the generator is trying to start from the coach batteries.
It's going to take a volt meter to see whats happening and there needs to be a load on the circuit to test.

In post 4 you said it was cranking slow. Have you solved that problem? The spark arrestor has nothing to do with cranking speed.
You will need a long extension to drop the arrestor, mine comes out the bottom.
Is it cold where you are, the glow plugs may not be working.
