Ellipse/Tour-Generator tray not releasing to extend-HELP!

I am unable to extend the generator tray on our new to us 2011 Itasca Ellipse 42QD. I've pulled the release handle forward as is shown in the manual-it moves about 1" but nothing on the slide releases. I know there is a second latch to release as the slide moves forward but, the slide is not moving at all. Looking under the slide, I can see that the release rod is moving as I pull forward but it appears that there may be a catch that is not releasing. Has anyone had this issue? Suggestions?

Did you remove the pin that locks it in place? Don't know if you have a locking pin or pins but most do. It is usually low on the generator frame. It is a metal pin that has a wire cable through it so it just hangs there when it's removed. Some have two pins. Mine has 1 pin. A little hard to find the first time.

Here is a pic of mine on my 2004. It is a safety thing to keep Genny from flying forward in a panicked stop.

OK, found the problem. The latch did release but the tray takes a lot of force to pull forward. I will try lubricating the rollers and slides first and see if that makes any difference. I should not have to pull that hard to move the tray forward.

Solo2, forgive me but, don't you have a powered generator slide?

Regards,
W.D.

Not on 2011 and I believe 2012. Our 2014 do have a power slide because the non powered slides were very very hard to pull out.

Jeez I guess I didn't know that. So....2013 was first year for that.......we both have the 10,500 Onan (standard), was that the OP's size as well?

In any case, that's a lot of weight to pull out by hand. I'm not a weakling, but I AM thankful for my power slide.

Regards,
W.D.

No, our 2011 has a 10KW Onan. I can get the tray to slide with much effort and it sounds like this may have been the norm for the 11-12 models?

Has anyone found a semi-solution to the tough sliding tray other than trading for a newer model?

Per your owners manual-pg 6-9/10, it is a pull-out tray with a "T" handle lock on the slide and
Lift Security T-Pin straight UP while simultaneously pulling hood out to the fully
extended position.

OK, tray is sliding better-at least it moves with modest effort now! Used a lithium grease on the roller, latches and guides and it moves so it will at least open, close and latch.

The problem with greasing the slide is road dirt will combine with grease and cause faster wear and increase resistance to movement.

Remove all of the grease and spray the rails and guides with this : Heavy-Duty Metal Protector from AMSOIL. The stuff works great for this type of application.
