I know there is no such thing as a stupid question but this is one is an exception. How do you turn the drivers side cockpit light on? I can't find a switch anywhere except on the back of the light fixture and it does nothing. I know the bulb is good and am beginning to believe the switch is bad but thought I'd ask before tearing it apart. The passenger side works fine with a switch beside the seat. We just bought this 2002 Itasca Horizon and it's our first motorhome. Any help would be appreciated.

The driver's side cockpit light switch is your dash dimmer light switch. Just like your car, turn it up all the way, and voila!

Rotate the headlight switch counterclockwise and it will come on even if your headlights are off.

Have to admit I had the same problem. Just wasn't obvious that the switch would be on the dash to turn on a light sitting over my shoulder. Nice to know I am not the only one!

Okey Dokey, just tried it and works fine. Thanks to all who responded. I have yet another question in the same category. There is another momentary switch on the dash-upper right- of the status indicator lamps. What does it do? Believe it or not, I have read the owners manual.
Thanks Again
Richard

rvarner -- I am not familiar with the dash of your coach, but it may be your MOMentary switch which allows you to connect your house batteries to your chassis batteries. This is used if you try to start your coach and the chassis batteries are discharged. It allows you to tap off the house batteries to start the engine.
Just a guess.

I think I read in the Freightliner manual that the switch you refer to is a trip meter reset. I think you have to hold it down for a few seconds to reset the odometer.

Thanks, I found that one - amazingly. This one is smaller and sets just right of the indicator lamps on the guage panel. The dash dimmer is on the left of the indicator lights.

These posts are almost 7 years old and while searching for help with a dash radio problem stubbled on this 'stupid question' question. I've had my Journey DL for 2 years and was never able to figure out how to turn on the cockpit light. Thanks for asking the stupid question and thanks to all for your responses! …now on to finding the fuse for my dash radio.

Scott, I think your going to probably need to either pull out the radio or pull the back side of the dash off. Usually there is an inline fuse connected to the radio itself.

I wish I'd asked this stupid question when we got ours. I decided they "forgot" to install a switch for that light and I had a vacant switch mounting in the dash, so I bought a matching dash switch and rewired the light to that switch. THEN I found out about the headlight switch thingy. I actually like the one I installed, tho.
