Damage to Rear Light Assembly

Ok, I may not have gotten the name right on this thing, but I did attached a pic.

A local RV repair guy gave me an estimate of over $1,200 to get the new part, paint and install. Seriously? My response was that I needed to look at other options. I'm not convinced that any body repair person could fix this for a fraction of the cost.

This is an '06 29 foot Class A Sightseer.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I suggest you go to your closest marina and get the name of the body shop that repairs fiberglass boats ...

I am sure they will be able to fix it so it looks as good as new for a fraction of the cost of a new part

Is it actually fiber glass? Or is it plastic?

It looks like a separate piece that attaches to the body so you may be able to order a replacement or find one at salvage.

If it's plastic (as it looks) I would take it off and try applying some heat using a heat gun while gently pushing it back into shape--it may turn out well enough to keep it.

I have a 2002 Itasca 34D. At the WIT, a steel fence post jumped up while I was backing and did mess up the same corner as yours. The the parts dept found a new replacement for less than $300. Seems like they had just got a shipment into stock. It was unpainted. I have not matched the paint or installed yet.

As I walked out of parts dept , one of the folks said I should be able to fix my damaged one, but I decided to keep the new one. Never know when another fence post will jump up, eh?

If you can take the damaged part off of your coach, i would suggest that you take it to Home Depot to get a color match and then repair the damage with fiberglass. I have done this and have had good success. Fiberglass is easy to work with and achieve a good repair.

I have been told that the color info about your coach is in the front of the black information bag that comes from Winnebago with the coach. You might be able to have the auto parts stores that do paint make you a sample spray can. Good luck
