Converter/Charger Location

Greetings!

Well, I think my erratic charger might be on the way out. I'd love to bench test it (or just replace the thing with a proper two bank model), but I can't find it! I've removed the AC electrical panel (most often suggested location), but no joy. I've looked behind just about everything. Any ideas?

According to your wiring diagram you Converter/Charger is in your kitchen under the right side cabinet just to the left of the fridge.

I don't know if you get to it via a removable panel inside the floor of that cabinet or if you get to it from a basement compartment under that location.

Here's a screen shot to help you find it:

Might consider installing a Xantrex or other 2000W inverter which includes 100 amp charging for lithium batteries. You can kill two birds with one stone.

Indeed. I'm installing a Xantrex from my boat, but I'm sticking with my AGMs. Thanks!

We have a 2004 Adventurer. Our converter is accessible by removing the bottom drawer.

In my 96 Itasca the converter is built into the breaker panel. I just installed a replacement with the three stage charger.

Your 2002 Brave is set up identically to my 2001 Adventurer 35U with the Charger/Converter under the bottom drawer beneath the range/stove.

I would not bother testing the old one and would just replace it with something that is kinder on your batteries which is what I did going with the Progressive Dimensions equipped with the Charge Wizard. It automatically maintains the batteries having a true float and de-sulfate mode which the original Magnatech does not. The Magnatech is well know for eating batteries even when working as designed.

My old Magnatech only sees use for jump starting cars now when the batteries are low.

Indeed it was! That was (of course), the only drawer I hadn't looked under! I've installed my high-end Tru-Charge (now Xantrex), five AGM batteries, and a Link amp-hour meter. Some of the cables were corroded several inches up the insulation (cheap welding cable with out adhesive shrink tubing). Surprisingly, the flooded batteries from the Brave, after getting a proper full charge on my workbench, retain a 12.8v charge and withstand brief high loads without total voltage collapses. They are going on the boat!
