Charger/converter to battery?
I have a 2004 Itasca Meridian 36 G with a Freightliner chassis. A couple of weeks ago we had a thunderstorm and I thought nothing of it. Last week I noticed two CGI outlets had tripped while the RV was stored at home and plugged in. One reset, the other that is on the charger/converter would not reset and was replaced.
Afterwords, I noticed that the lights were dim and when I checked the batteries both had discharge to 11.2 volts. I found the Parallax 7455 converter/charger and noticed the fan was not working. I removed it and bench tested it and found 13.8 volts coming out. I checked the wires that should run to the house batteries from the Parallax and there was no voltage.
Check 120 and 12 volt breaker and all were ok.
Is the voltage from the Parallax one way?
Where should I look for some sort of relay?
What does it look like?
Should the old Parallax fan be running?
Thanks in advance.

Missed the chassis 55amp breaker in the chassis battery compartment up front. All ok
One more breaker I forgot in the front of the chassis. Reset and everything works.

Good job troubleshooting that problem. Regarding your question about the Parallax 7455 fan. You can probably do an online search for a manual if you don't have one that will give you the correct answer. As I recall on mine, the fan generally would not run unless the charger was working really hard to charge the batteries or the converter was sending a lot of 12 DC to the coach. I think it was probably related to temperature.

Hey LP,
Just wondering, you mentioned a "55 amp breaker" in the battery compartment. I've not heard of that being there. I do have a 300 amp fuse in our battery compartment that is in direct line with the positive house battery cable that leads to our replacement Magnum ME2012 Inverter/Charger.

Yup! Different RV, different wiring!
Somewhat the same but not the same all the time!

Scott,
I called it a battery box from my old Bounder days. As Richard’s pictures show, this is what I have at the front of my Meridian up against the firewall accessed from the front “hood”. I completely forgot there were breakers there.

Hey Dave,
Yes, there are some differences in the "up front" wiring as shown in both pics.
But, in the battery area, the two coaches are identical. If you look at your three 12V house batteries, and follow the positive lead to the inverter/charger, you'll see an inline 300A fuse, in both coaches. So, this is why I questioned your statement about the breaker.
All those breakers you mention in your coach, are in a different place in ours. They're all in the left front compartment. I've got about 250 miles of wiring (almost exaggerating there) in that left front compartment. That includes my MMDC, body/compartment/entry door security control box and, the Smart Wheel control center. Along with that are a few dozen 12VDC breakers and relays.
