The buttons on the TV (GE 19") don't work at all. None of them. The remote works intermittantly. I expect the beast to die shortly. Went to Best Buy to see about a Sharp LC-20SH3U, as recommended in a previous post (8/17/06) by Jim who installed the Sharp in his rig. Not avail at Best Buy. I'll check Circuit City & other places.
Any hope of an easy fix for the GE 19" TV now installed (Bad Tuner?)?
How do I access the TV for R&R? Maybe from the bottom?
I read an article in today's WSJ saying it's not recommended to put in a HDTV in a pre-HD system (ie, old rcvr & cables). Results in bad picture.
It's always something.

We have the same TV in our '04. Yup, from the bottom. The panel underneath has to come at least partially out. As I remember it, the light needs to be removed, and the at least the front edge of the panel undone to get at the bolts that hold the TV down.
Dealer had to remove mine (I forget why) and didn't get it all back in right, in fact it nearly fell out. I had to redo it, but it was a couple years ago, can't remember all the details.

The panel underneath is held on by staples or brads on the ones I have seen. You could replace with a LCD TV if you want. They certainly are lighter and maybe you can doo some woodworking.

Thudman </div></BLOCKQUOTE>I was just chatting with Pat Tribby (ptribby) at the Datastorm User's Rally a week ago (at least I think it was Pat) about HDTV. He installed one in his Ultimate Advantage and he says it does great with the built-in Winegard TV antenna for over-the-air HDTV.
Don't think I would fool with trying to fix the TV - unfortunately this is more of a disposable society. Usually not feasable to fix some electronics and small appliances.
"It's always something"... man, isn't that the truth!

John:
As usual, you're right on. Thx.
I looked (Walmart) at a Philips 20" (20PF5120/28); would be VERY tight to fit in hole w/stand. It's an LCD, non-HDTV; $378. Hopefully I can get by without a wall-mount ($$) mechanism, & use a screw-down or strap.
Also Best Buy's Samsung 19" LCD HDTV ($474), for an easy fit.
Could not find Jim's (prev post) Sharp LC-20SH3U that he installed, requiring a wall mount.

our tv died in the rear bedroom a few months ago......I asked around , most tv repair shops wanted at least $75. to $85. to EVEN look at it.....so I went to TARGET got a magnavox 20'' on sale for $85.00!!!
you have to take down the bottom panel, about a dozen small screws,,, then there are two nuts. thats hold a metal " band" over the old tv,,,, the nuts draw the band , down tite over the tv, also there is a rubber ' glue ' strip attached to the band,,,,,,,,,
a little giggling and it came out,,,,another attic doorstop.. put the new one in on a slab of high density foam, a new strip of glue tape , and the new one went in beautifully!
I figure the constant pounding of the rear doesnt help a tv like that,,,,but why try to have it fixed when a similar one cost the same as a repair............. economics

Do you recall the model number? Was it an LCD or tube?
