Battery Minder/Tender

A long time ago I think I read that the 2015 36Y Vista LX had a battery minder/tender built in. I can't find where I read it. If this is so, where is it?

Thanks

Sue46-

BIM (Battery Isolation Manager) shown on this diagram, sheet 3. It's located inside the chassis electrical box, behind the breaker panel. According to this drawing, the chassis electrical box looks to be on the driver-side compartment just aft of the front wheel.

I could be incorrect.

All diagrams for the 2015 36Y here.

The BIM will tie the coach and chassis batteries together if it senses charging voltage on either side and the other side needs charging. So coach batteries get recharged going down the road, chassis batteries get recharged if need be when coach batteries are being charged from converter/charger or a solar system if you have one.

Only thing I have added is a BatteryMINDer OBD-12, an onboard de-sulfator. You might consider this if you have the OEM Winnebago NAPA RV/Marine Batteries to extend their life some.

Thanks a lot for the info. My computer and the Cortana software don't play nice with each other so it is difficult to look at any of the Winnie drawings.

I'll look for the minder today, just want to make sure we have one as we are thinking of adding a couple more solar panels and may need to switch controllers. Current controller handles 2 battery banks, new one would handle only one but if we have the minder we don't have to be concerned.

On a 2015 Vista and for that matter ALL modern Winnebago motorized RVs there is a Converter Charger that has a built in "float charge" mode that eliminates the need for a battery minder. YOU DON'T NEED ONE FOR YOUR VISTA.

That combined with the Battery Isolation Manager built into your Vista will maintain charge on BOTH your Chassis and Coach batteries.

Perhaps you can state what your problem is you are trying to solve, that you thought would be fixed by adding a battery minder.

I never said I had a problem. I was just wondering where it was and where I read it. We plan to add to our solar and the question came up.

Where it was - it is your converter charger and it is mounted in an enclosed space you can't see behind or very near your box with the fuses and circuit breakers within it.

Where I read it - you can't. It does not have any status panel. You will have to install a product like the Victron BMP-700 Battery Monitor with a shunt that goes between the battery bank negative connection and everything else. It then reads the exact current going in or out of your batteries and the exact voltage. It keeps track of exactly how much power is stored in the batteries. Good stuff.

If you have this you can tell your converter charger or solar charger went into float charge mode as the charging current flowing into the batteries will drop to only about 1-2 amps which is small enough to avoid causing the battery electrolyte decomposing into hydrogen gas and oxygen gas AKA "boiling" water out of the batteries.
