Battery Compartment Cleaning

The battery compartment on the Journey 34y is located at left rear behind the dual rear wheels. Therefore being somewhat open, the compartment is exposed to dirt and grime thrown up from the road.
I know that it is also exposed to a certain level of moisture, but not sure if something like a low pressure washer & some type cleaner would be acceptable way to clean.
I would like to throughly clean this area and am inquiring as to how others keep this area clean and what type of cleaner would be acceptable.
Thanks for any insight you can share.

Have a Forza with batteries located in same space . I turn off inverter ,and house circuits at door and remove batteries . Tape up cable ends and use my electric power washer lightly to remove dirt and such . Then get my leaf blower to blow area dry . Let it sit with bay door open to dry . Come back next day and touchup with paint in areas that might need it . Let dry and install batteries . Do that everytime I check water ,3 months if traveling .

A good place for two types of cleaning to get the most out of the batteries.
One is general dirt as above, but that the battery tops between the posts can work better if we use some type of chemical to neutralize the acid that often creeps out. A baking soda scrub with an old brush and not too much water is a pro cleaning.

Not so much water that you short the terminals together but get something alkaline like baking soda on the surface to cut the acid layer that can build up. Then finish with a clean water rinse.
The idea is that the acid can build a layer that can be a sneaky "leak" for the power to move from one post to the other or ground like a hold down clamp, etc. Kind of a self discharge route to break up! A wet layer of dirt and mud can make your batteries go down too quick.
